Thoughts on popular villagers?

Idk if anyone has posted something similar but I feel bad every time I say the villager I hold closest to my heart is Julian cause everyone says he’s too basic I really do wish I weren’t so into cute things because all my favorites are cute “overrated” villagers :,(

What’re your thoughts on the popular villagers?

a lot of my favourite villagers are popular villagers - audie, lolly, diana, etc. i’m not too sure of who’s popular and who’s not anymore, but out of the ones i can remember, some of the popular villagers i’m not super fond of are raymond, julian, ankha, etc. that doesn’t mean i hate them at all, i just don’t like them as much as i like other villagers aha.

out of all my dreamies, only two of them are considered unpopular and that’s margie and fuchsia (might switch them out for gayle and pashmina, though lol). that means 8/10 of my dreamies are popular or semi-popular. while i do feel a bit basic for wanting to have so many high-tier villagers, at the end of the day, it’s my game and my island and it’s perfectly okay to like and want villagers that are popular :3

It doesn't matter whether you like a popular villager or not. No one should pressure you on who and what to like. I just got Raymond from a generous user here just a while ago and I love him dearly. I do have a lot of them in my island but I have a mix of some non-popular too!

They're villagers that other people like. Some of them I like, and some of them I don't. The only thing that villager popularity influences are price points, and I treat it as such.

About the half of my favorite villagers are overrated while the other half is underrated. There’s nothing wrong with liking a popular or unpopular villager, everyone has their own opinion. While in my town most of my villagers are underrated or hated which is fine for me except for the overrated cat that I ended up liking.

I never much cared if the villager I like is popular or not. The reason I like Raymond, Marshal and Kid Cat because I like their design a lot, not because they're popular.

Don't be the player who cater to the crowd and enjoy what you found interesting and like because at the end of the day, who will be the one playing the game? Isn't it you? Don't be bothered what other people think.

I hear a lot of people say in other groups that they all like the same 10 villagers in which I did feel kind of bad but I think most of them are looking for attention honestly.

I have always picked my villagers based on how I felt about them (whether they are just cute or based on my past experiences with them). I really don't let trends of the AC community impact my decisions and popularity to me just reflects how others like/dislike a certain villager.

I have a mix of more popular and some less popular villagers as my permanent villagers. I love all of my villagers and would never replace anyone solely for jumping tiers. It's your game so pick who you want to pick and enjoy them! They're your villagers and you are the one that interacts with them.

I've always felt like most things become popular for a reason! Raymond is an odd eyed cat with fangs, a nice color palette and a cool personality and style. These are all reasons people latched on to him, and it's the same for most of the others. I didn't know too much about the villagers and their popularity until this game, but Lolly was an instant love at first site when I noticed her design a while back. I had no idea how popular she was, but many others must also find her as adorable as me!

People like things for a multitude of reasons, and all of them are valid.

If someone said my taste in villagers was "bland and basic" I'd tell them "so are you ; )!" I mean come on LOL judging people we ALL have our own tastes whether populars or lessers they're all special to each of us and even the new ones have grown on me such cutie pies. Don't listen to silly people and love who you love!!

I contemplated this a little while ago, thinking to myself that my lineup was pretty basic. I even found myself thinking “I can’t bring in Judy... I already have *so* many high tier villagers and I’ll look like I’m copying everyone...” But At the same time, the so-called “high tier” villagers (Merengue And Stitches) we’re both of my starters in New Leaf before I even realized there was a tier list, so I really couldn’t play on my island without them.

Flash forward to recently, I just traded away Raymond to a really nice home. Yeah, he was cute (and supposedly the king of S+ tier right now), but he really didn’t suit the style of my island. I think that lowkey showed me that while most of my villagers are higher on the tier list, I kinda just appreciate them for their designs and aesthetics rather than their supposed monetary worth or popularity. I’ve also had several friends who don’t frequent the forums/tier list tell me straight up that “Judy would look sooo good on your island!”, so I kinda said— scr*w the tier list then! I’m going for who I want.

that happened with julian! he was in my NL town and all i thought was “oh cool a blue unicorn with a love for anime music” so i kinda fell in love with him before even knowing animal crossing had a community that ranked villagers

A lot of the most popular villagers have a universal appeal to them, that's why they're so popular! I love Julian myself, he's really cool looking with an awesome house decor.

Other people go the complete opposite and hate on the characters with universal appeal because of... I dunno, maybe it'll sound mean of me to say it, but it's "I'm not like those OTHER plebes who all like the same thing!" sort of mindset. They want to stand apart from the crowd by shunning "popular" stuff.

I just wanna like what I like. What's the saying? "Don't yuck on other peoples yums!"

julian? basic? how dare they, he's literally one of the best villagers! i absolutely adore his design and his personality, so i can definitely see how he's your favorite.

a majority of my dreamies are popular villagers, i don't really mind if people try to call me out for liking them. they're popular because they're cute, and i like cute aesthetics and i happen to be really fond of them. they're my dreamies because i have such an attachment to them, like maple, who has always been in my ac towns since wild world. just remember that it's your game, so don't let others shame you for liking "popular" villagers!

It’s your game. Get villagers you like regardless of what others’ opinions are. At the end of the day, you are playing the game to have fun, not to please others. It doesn’t matter if villagers you like are liked by everyone else nor does it matter if no one likes you villagers. The important thing is you like them.
