Thoughts about people selling ACNH items on eBay?

The amount of money I’ve seen people charge and make off of things from the game does bother me.
I’ve seen a advertisement on how you would be able to find a screenshot of a room and someone will get the exact items for you for $25, and it just seems unfair to charge that much for something that is simply ordering items from the Nook Stop.

then again of course everyone can use their own money however they’d like, but I wish some of the prices were more reasonable for what they’re actually doing :)

It's their money so I'd say let them do what they want to do (hoping they are aware of the consequences), but personally, I'm not gonna pay real money for something I could do or acquire in-game and charge people real money for them. In-game bells, TBT or NMTs are fine whenever I sell stuff though I usually don't.

I personally would not buy or sell items on eBay, even as desperate as I am for star trees to be a real thing so I can have some. Honestly, they would be the icing on the cake and would look stunning on my island, I just can't see spending the money on bootlegged items that could eventually get me banned or worse. Don't get me wrong, I'm mad jealous of people that have them. I just wouldn't do it myself. Just because they HAVEN'T taken action doesn't mean they WON'T. I remember getting a letter of summons for downloading from Napster back in the day, and I'm not in a hurry to pay damages for something like that again.

As for people selling items that actually exist in the game, beyond the legalities and ToS they're violating on both sides, they're also kind of dumb for spending REAL money on stuff I'm GIVING AWAY all day on this forum. Lol That's part of why I keep my prices so low or free is to combat the inflation problem with so many items. Let's hope those lost souls find their way to the forum some day. :)

The whole point of having a video game is to play it,not buy your way through.I don't place dollar amounts on anything in this game because none of it is really worth anything. The logic those eBay selling people use is that you're paying for the time they spend in farming and/or hacking the game to get the things they sell.I suppose if you're in a big hurry you can buy the stuff or....you could just play the game.

I don’t support it at all. It goes against Nintendo’s rules and just a huge scam. People can do whatever they want with their money but it should not be recommended imo.
And considering kids also play this game, it’s sad that they would be getting scammed since they don’t know any better.

I think it's pathetic that people are doing that at all. I don't understand how you could charge any sort of real life currency for a video game pixel pattern and be in good conscious lol.

This is why I REALLY hope they come out with Amiibo cards for the new villagers. It would obliterate those who are doing stupid crap like this, like selling Raymond and the others online. It definitely helped the inflation for villagers earlier. A pack of cards of the old series' would be 6 cards. So I would love it if they had enough for just like 12 different combos (including the new NPCs) so people would be able to super easily obtain Raymond after buying like 3 packs. That way it would shut all these weirdos up lol.

Personally, I think it is dumb / a scam to pay real life money for in game items that are predominantly available in game, or through trades for non- real money. However, if competent adults are willing to pay real money, that is their prerogative. For me one issue is the number of players who are children/young teens. I would hope these children have parental supervision regarding spending money online, but I know that is not always they case and that is where it becomes particularly exploitative to me.

as for hacked items, working in the it security industry, it just seems too risky to me. Not only because very trustworthy seeming people can be very untrustworthy, but also because even well-intentioned hacks can result in unforeseen bad results. The recent information on the hacked additional bridges resulting in redd never visiting your island again comes to mind (even if the hacked bridges are removed). But ultimately the determination of risk tolerance is up to each individual. Though, again, if the people buying these things are children I think it is exploitative.

yes, Nintendo does consider this stuff a violation of terms of service, and it is unclear what actions if any they might take, and on how broad a scale. It seems like primarily what they would do is cancel your Nintendo online account so that you can’t play online anymore. But I doubt they are going to do something like that except in egregious cases.

Personally, I really don't care if someone does it or not. However, it's their own risk to buy stuff from Ebay or to have hacked items. I have no desire to do either.

As for it being stupid, yes. . . but people have spent more on purely aesthetic changes in different video games or on, well, really anything stupid. People spend money on 200 different eyeshadow palettes or spend $300 on Clash of Clans. It really doesn't surprise me that there's a villager market, especially since most villagers go for ~$15 on Ebay.

I personally would never buy in game stuff with actual money since I think it'd be a waste. However, what people choose to so with their money is none of my business either so if they wanna buy or sell, that's up to them. Some prices are unfair for sure but I'm sure there are also people selling things as the same price that mobile microtransactions would have you pay (within the 5 dollar range) and I think if people want to pay for convenience, I'm not gonna be up in arms about it. As for what Nintendo's policy, I'm not super concerned because I hardly think it's a moral dilemma so it's not like it makes someone evil if they went against Nintendo TOS. If they wanna take the risk, then let them. If Nintendo wants to take action, then they do. Meanwhile, I'll be here playing ACNH, waiting for a million years just to complete my Gulliver collection. Lol

I'm a little worried about people who spend real money on games. I know it's easy to think anyone who spends money on virtual items is someone who has money to burn, but realistically that's not always the case. sometimes people who can't afford it get addicted to spending money on games.

I don't think that's very likely to happen to many people playing ACNH since it's not something that's endorsed by Nintendo and it's relatively hush-hush (as opposed to the microtransactions in Pocket Camp or gacha games in general), but in general the idea of people paying for virtual stuff makes me nervous for that reason.

I personally don't see myself spending real money on in-game items unless it's amiibo or DLC. Though it's entirely your choice if you want to spend hundreds of dollars on an in-game cat. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Honestly I'm not surprised people are doing that. Personally I view it the same as paying for "leaf tickets" in pocket camp, or any other addition purchases for digital items on websites or video games (excluding the one time purchase for the game itself), which I something I do not partake in. I'm not about to spend real money for any sort of in-game item, and spending money to purchase an entire game itself is enough for me. I feel like if I am buying something within that game, I should be paying for it with that game's currency and not my own money.

i looked up listings on ebay a few months ago for stuff like nmt, raymond and diys and literally almost passed out - like a lot of other people have said, selling in-game stuff for cash is against nintendo’s terms of services and plus it’s uh,,, kinda lame LMAO. $70 for a pixelated cat wearing glasses? get away from me 💀

I wouldn't trust It im tway oo scared to spend real money on something like that. I never really buy anything online. Thank goodness this exists

Alot of the stuff can be found pretty cheap and one thing to think about is those who would buy them aren't actually buying the item/character, they are buying time. So if you have the patience to spend hours/days/weeks on the game finding the item/character its free, but if you don't have that and have extra cash it can be helpful.

I personally did buy Audie off of one of these sellers, really wanted her and at $6 plus 40 resources of my choice I decided it was worth it. not planning on buying anything else but I understand why others would
