This is so frustrating!

Ok, rant time.

I've just gone to place a community project (the street lamp) and Isabelle is being SO picky. It needs an 'empty section of land that's 1 left and 1 right, and then another 2 spaces back'. I've filled those requirements, I've even laid out a pattern on the ground to make sure that there's exactly that amount of space.

However, she keeps telling me it's 'too close to the plaza' which, by the way, is 7 SPACES AWAY. There is nothing else close to where I want to place it.

It's ridiculous how clunky the placements are.

Sorry, end of rant, I just had to vent my frustration.

I agree completely. It amazes me how a villager can plop their house down 1 space away from the river, but I can't build a bench 1 space away ._.

Don't use patterns, use holes instead. Patterns can be placed on tiles the game considers to be "plaza" but you can only dig a hole in an empty space. Don't forget you'll need at least one space / hole directly next to the plaza as its "border". Stand directly in front of the hole where you want the lamppost to be, and see if Isabelle will let you place it.

Happened to me with a bridge. Where I originally wanted it, Isabelle fussed that it was too close to the right of Julian's house. (Over 6 spaces away...) Then she said I could put the bridge where it was only 3 spaces away from the left of his house.
Sometimes I think you do this junk for your own amusement, you sack-headed mutt. -_-

I hate this too. I was trying to do something similar but she kept saying it was too close to the town sq. -.-
I wanted a row of street lamps going down from the train station to the square :c It would have been super pretty..

Judging my playstyle against a lot of people on this forum, I'm extremely lax. I don't have a grand layout for the town. I don't design clothes or paths and I let the villagers put their houses anywhere they please. I pretty much stick everything everywhere and even I get annoyed at Isabelle not letting me put things in places where I'm sure there is enough room--and you have to listen to her long, long, speech every single time you want to put something somewhere. You're right, it's very frustrating.

That's a good point, I'll use that instead of patterns in future. I tried it with the street lamp, there's plenty of room but Isabelle isn't having any of it. *sigh* I'll just find somewhere else for it xD

My biggest regret is putting in the campsite. Like Cranky Squirrel said, I'm pretty much putting stuff where it will fit. I did put the fairy tale projects together. Placing a pyramid or huge tower will be a challenge. Good old Nook placed nearly every villager next to my house. Yet Isabelle needs a football field for a street lamp.

Try again another time?
IT might just have been me being stupid the first time I placed my well, but I ended up ~after moving 1 square at a time away from my plaza~ having it 5 squares away from it. Which I wasn't too fussed over. Then a couple weeks ago I realised there wasn't enough space the other side of the well for what I wanted so I demolished it.
The next day when I was trying to find a good spot to replace the well I randomly attempted to put it back 2 spaces closer to the plaza than it had been originally and Isabelle let me! =D No idea what was preventing me the first time I tried to place it, but now I have room for everything.

That's interesting, I'll try again tomorrow or next week then and see if anything changes!

I feel bad. Isabelle is like so picky. Let me do the restrictions, please! She shouldn't be the one bossing me around.

I would like to hear if anyone else has any sucess with trying that. Unfortunately I have bushes and gardens all around my plaza, so I don't want to detroy them to place pwp around.

There are tricks to placing public projects. Once you get the trick, it's easy. ^^

There are many spots where you can't place them, but when you are absolutely certain you are supposed to put them in a certain spot, Isabelle will place the project one spot above where you're standing. So if you have the space, just go one square down. Seems to work every time for me ^^

Really? I put my cafe right by a cliff and the plaza but she didn't say too much about it..
But it's annoying. I didn't want anyone moving in front of my town hall or my Re-Tail so I put projects in front. "too close to something else". Really?
Poor Isabelle is too stressed out by work. >_<

You know, thinking back on it she fussed more over my streetlamp than any larger project. Weird.

I've had this problem too. Specially with the event plaza like you said. Most times I can get the project in the spot I want after speaking with Isabelle, but she just doesn't give you an easy time about it.

My advice to you is to keep trying.
