On wikia, I got banned for being "underage".
I was using the My Little pony, Friendship is Magic wiki. The chat wasn't allowed to use bad language, I thought i was home free.
But when i came clean 10 minutes ago, I got banned from chat. For 2 years. For not being 13 years old.
And who's to blame? COPPA. This is ridiculous. I wasn't doing anything, I want to do MORE than Nickelodeon, MORE than Cartoon Network. I want something that is mature and respectful. And i got hushed because i'm not 13, And i'm "just a kid".
If any of you have any stories similar, Or anything like that, just post below.

I actually cherish being a kid since I don't have to do everything adults do (Working, paying for stuff, taking care of kids). I'm 16, but I'm one of the few people my age that doesn't want to get older.
On the sidenote, I'm sure there's been something like that that's happened to me before. I just can't remember it.

EDIT: I remember now. You used to (and I think you still do) have to be like, 20, to make a youtube account. I wasn't honest though cause I thought that was a stupid rule.

No, apparently for some strange reason we live in a world where 20 year olds made up a fan base called my little brony, and now tons of people of many different ages like it.
Weird how dumb things get popular, right?

EDIT: Correct me if I'm wrong as to how it got popular. I don't keep up with stuff people automatically decide is popular.

Those rules have been around for ages. If you're complaining about this, then you would have hated the official Nintendo Forums, NSider. They required you to be 13. There are reasons for rules, especially these ones. Certain sites choose to follow them and certain ones don't. The Bell Tree used to, in a way. It was a gray area. First, the couldn't post info about themselves, or pictures. They're there to protect to, in all honesty. The Bell Tree is a public forum. Those that are not logged in can still get in and read the threads and such. I'm not trying to sound like an old coot, but not everyone on the internet is as trustworthy and amazing as we'd all like to think. I've learned that in a really creepy and messed up way. While it's not necessarily the most efficient thing in the world or the best law passed, it still has its purposes and reasons. Complaining about it will do no good and certainly doesn't help

And in order to own a Youtube account, you have to be 13 or older. It's been that way for quite a while.

I don't think it's ridiculous at all. COPPA (and other laws pertaining to child protection) is in place to look out for the wellbeing of children. In my opinion they're not doing a good enough job and need to put something more effective in place. :/

TBT is the tamest forum I've ever used as far as content goes. The rest of the internet isn't as fluffy (and muffly!) and safe as this.

I first got involved in forums and fandoms and stuff about 4 years ago, when I was 12. I joined a forum, in which you had to be 13 to join, and stupidly put my full birthdate. I didn't think it mattered that much at first, but after reading through the rules, I read that you could be banned if it was discovered that you were underaged. So I changed my birthdate on the forum so that I was like 15 or something so I didn't get banned.

A few months later, I became a mod at said forum and in the staff welcoming thread (staff have their own little forum section and threads that us members can't see), one of the admins pointed out that I was underaged at the time that I joined... But that didn't matter anymore. He said that I had already proved myself to be mature enough, even though I was still 12 when I became a mod. Pretty cool.

I think it is ridiculously stupid that you were banned from a MLP wikia. My Little Pony is meant for kids.

I joined YouTube and Facebook when I was 11. Facebook I was able to change my date of birth, YouTube I was not. Looking back, it was somewhat stupid of me. Even now, I give kids under 13 a hard time on YouTube because it's such a territorial place. If you say something wrong, you will get swore at and I don't want a little kid getting upset. It's more of a "I want to look out for you" thing rather than "you're too young, get out".

But that's completely stupid for you to get banned on something that's meant for kids. My Little Pony is geared towards, I'm assuming, 4-10 year olds? And if you're older and love them, it's not a big deal. I know tons of people who are my age (17) and love MLP.

I'm sorry that happened, OP.

It's not ridiculous, but it is pretty weird. I'm a kid as well and many websites have a lot of restrictions. That's why I use this forum because it's a community for kids, teens, adults, and so forth! ^_^

/16 year old brony. Sup. But ah it sucks ya know, they make age restrictions just to to be a pain (*cough, attempt to keep children sheltered from the real world), but let's be honest.. None of us did/do abide by them, just make a new account if you can and keep it hushed. Though it does seem rather silly that there would be one as MLP is originally directed at children so you think it'd be kid friendly (there's definitely separate forums/sites for the older audience/bronies. ) I've never been true about my age on any site until recently. Sites should know by now even 8 year olds lurk on the internet, so be it. xD

It's not dumb, it's fairly entertaining for those whom at least give it a chance and stop judging a book by it's cover, but alas to each their own but don't judge someone for watching something they enjoy.

I once thought it was the stupidest girly overrated crap people have come up with until I let down my manly guard and gave it a chance. Then I easily fell for the show Can't go back now.... I was totally shocked.. Like crap.

I think we've all had a little bit too much internet here. Everybody, please, put your mouses down, unhand your energy drink and go enjoy some fresh air or something. Jeez. Kids these days.

Last thing I'm going to say, so this doesn't turn into a debate. I meant I don't keep up with it ANYMORE. I've actually watched it and the brony fanbase too at one point; it just doesn't appeal to me. Sorry if this offended anyone who likes MLP.
