i LOVE my island a lot and i have sooo much on it like
loads of fish, bugs, paintings, fossils in the museum
so many nook miles and stuff like that
and this is the first time on an ac game i've actually decorated everything

however i didn't have a theme in mind when i made it and now i do but redecorating would take ages and just annoy me so i was thinking it may be easier to just start from scratch

i can get my mum and my sister to hold my things like furniture, clothes, bells, villagers etc so i'm not worried about that, the only thing i'd be losing that bothers me is the friendship levels of my villagers and the stuff i've donated

thing is though i started again on new leaf so many times but my town was pretty basic and had nothing on it so i didn't care as much but with new horizons just seems like a big decision so i'm not sure what to do

has anyone started again and regret it?

Not with an animal crossing game, but I've restarted many Pokemon games (I know, less effort and stuff in those games but...) and I regretted it at first because I'd miss the little sprites I got ever so attached to. But after a few days, I'm totally fine with it and invested in the new file.

If I were you, I'd go for it. You can always refriend the villagers and find ways to continue donating.

I have the firm belief that if you have to ask for advise, it's likely not something you actually want to do. That, and it would realistically take you a lot longer starting from scratch rather than just paying to move everything to your beach, levelling the ground and rebuilding from there.

For what it's worth, once I reset my New Leaf town once, I couldn't shake the reset bug. I have no desire to reset my New Horizons for that reason.

I reset yesterday and it took me all of yesterday and a hour this morning to get the island layout I wanted. i had 525 hours in my first island but so glad I reset. Hope this helps.:)

tbh my main reason for starting again is the layout for my island like the river exits and the airport colours
also i don't like my island name anymore it really bothers me, even though it's only been 2 months lol

however i'm starting to get bored of the game and there's legit nothing else to do atm that's why i thought starting again might be fun

They're some really good things to notice though.

There are things you are dissatisfied with that won't be fixed unless you reset (river exits; island name), however part of the desire might also be more burn-out and boredom related, and I'm not sure how going back to grinding at the start of the game would help with that.

you could ‘reset’ just by knocking everything down, moving villagers to the beach, which would give you more open space! i understand if u dont like ur town hall placement or where your rivers end..

i think i might just go for it, it's just a game to be fair so i'm not losing anything important
anything i've got i'd be able to get again and i think it would be fun
plus i do like starting again on my games ☆

I made a very similar "should I reset" post myself a few weeks ago! going into the game, I thought I knew what I wanted... but of course there was so much I didn't know, and why I prioritized having a freaking "middle island" on my map in the first place I'll never know lol. I ended up also getting villagers I didn't care for because I didn't know how plotting worked, and their homes were terribly placed. it basically got to a point where I was spending money just to move things around, only to hate where it'd be placed, and repeat.

I restarted once, got an island I liked... but then messed up my villager plots again and felt super defeated when two folks I didn't like moved in.

on a third reset, I liked things fine, but then noticed I hated my beach rock formations...

on my fourth reset, I went in with a future theme in mind--I wanted to model it after the town in the movie Kiki's Delivery Service--and knew that there were only a few essentials (like those friggin beach rocks). I am SO happy I reset and finally got a map I like. it took me more than a week and I think I annoyed everyone in my family + boyfriend lol, but for me it was worth it because I'm much more conscious and thoughtful about where I'm placing things as they are being laid down, instead of retroactively having to pay bells to fix it. the one thing I feel behind on is the stalk market, but other than that, I'm happy to have reset :) I didn't care for Bunny Day either so I'm not mad about that haha

if you're thinking about it... I'd say do it! the alternative is redecorating your island as is, which will of course preserve bugs/fossils/etc., but will take time and bells in a different way than resetting completely

I'd strongly advise against resetting as I think it can turn into a vicious cycle and make you lose connection with your Island.
That's just me though...
You can easily re-arrange things. It'll just take patience.

oof i've already started moving my stuff
i'm not even as worried as i was before, i'm actually really excited about it now i have a real island idea in mind ☆

it really depends on the person.

I don't want to push you one way or the other lol, but from my personal experience I really wish I didn't reset so much in new leaf. 2,000 hours in that game, about 4 or 5 towns that I spent a long time in and I still have nothing to show for it to this day because I reset too much lol. and like the other guy it started a vicious cycle for me.

I do deeply regret it but I think you will most likely have a different experience though since you're resetting relatively soon after starting, and also you don't seem to be resetting mainly based on not liking the name of your island ;; just make sure to not get into a loop of constantly resetting, meticulously plan out everything to best ensure you won't regret it later on!

since you're not losing very much stuff (and also because you're already in the process lmao) I'd say give it a go.
one thing I will say is that coming back to the first week of the game in the tutorial part is a S L O G, I've done it twice now on a separate switch and holy crap it is nasty. I spent about 5 hours straight doing it each time. my advice for that would be take it slow, don't try speedrunning it because you'll get a migraine lol

I haven't, but every once in a while I think about it. Since there are other people on my island, I can't because they all protest against it. But any of you can earn 10 tbt here!
Once per week each week you comment!
