They could fix fossils by doing one thing...

lol, i saw this thread floating around somewhere on tumblr

I basically covered most of my island with paths (default and custom) and buried fossils in the beach so it seems this has stopped them from spawning! I wish Blathers could buy them for his personal collection as he often mentions!

Nah. I dont like the idea of being able to access them myself. I don't mind going to Blathers to see what they are.

Of course, I wouldn't mind if his dialogue changed once you finished the fossil collection or if you could sell them to him directly. They could put in mini fossils that way. Sell Blathers a complete big fossil collection and he would be like "I know this guy that can make a model, do you want me to get one for you?" Or something like that.

I am collecting a second set now that i filled the museum, they r pretty cool to put up around your island. plus I may of completed my museum but still need to finish the nooks miles achievement, so definitely gonna keep going till I've done 300

There is a Nook Miles achievement for identifying like 500 fossils. So I will keep collecting them daily until I complete this.

It's also a way to make few extra bells per day.

they could just change the fossil door plate recipe mats to be 'any fossil'

also yes i need a reward for my fossils!! do they still give silver + gold shovels? i havent gotten any gold tools yet besides slingshot which is honestly pretty useless imo ))):
also i want an npc to sell fossils at a higher price too. gives more incentive to collect fossils. saw someone before say it could be a dog archaeologist that wants the fossils because dogs chew on bones!! just thought that was a cute idea

No silver tools in the game and you get the golden shovel from a certain amount of times of digging up parts for Gulliver's phone.

This is how fossils have always worked. They really haven't made much QoL improvements from previous games, so I can't see them doing much of it now for existing stuff and new features. Like bulk crafting for example.

I can also see it not being that easy depending how the fossil identification is handled. Like if the fossils are only identified once they are dug out or whatever. I don't know how they coded it. There's many things I would like that would seem easy, but might not be or they're just to lazy to listen to suggestions. An example would be the Nook twins calling you whenever you use the selling box. I thought its feature was to save you time, but you get stuck in a phone call that eats up time. And you also get a 20% cut. They could easily get rid of that skit and have you phone beep that the Nooks sent you a text which you can read at your leisurely about how much was sent to your bank.

Also I hid my fossils in NL and I will do that to, but guys I've been digging up several fossils on different days. Sometimes I can get six if I missed one the other day. So I never tested it out to see if they just spawn forever and ever.

I really like that idea! I'm so annoyed that after completing my museum I still have to dig four fossils up everyday. Of course they spawn in the most inconvenient spots too! It causes an unnecessary 15 minute daily task to the game, especially having to go talk to blathers each time. Oftentimes I just leave them where they are and I end up with dozens of fossils I take to the museum all at once lol!

Fossils don't really need a fix, they aren't broken.

Now would I want to see a travelling NPC that purchases your fossils for more money and makes models for you. Yes.

I didnt even know I completed the fossils until I manually went and checked. Blathers never even fricken acknowledged it! What the heck??

god PLEaaAAsseeee this would be great. any of the additions folks mentioned. in my experience finishing the fossils is the easiest part of the museum to complete, even without time traveling, so it's strange to me that there is no change when you do so.

i still dig up fossils if i happen to have a shovel on me, but they end up in storage until i can do a mass ID and sell in bulk. it yields a good chunk o bells so i'm not mad about it but i'd definitely like to sell to a new NPC or use them for crafting. a spooky halloween bones themed DIY series? is that too morbid? lmao

I agree with the Blather's twitter post.

Not to shoot down opinions, but it wouldn't make sense for us to be able to assess fossils by ourselves or get a doctorate for completing a museum wing. There's no in-game reason that would justify it. We aren't going to a school or taking an actual class for paleontology. Blather's facts wouldn't justify it either and Blather's is the one solely assessing them. Blathers actually has a doctorate and took 2 games for him to have one.

I understand people want to make things easier, but it gets to a point where its just sounding like lessening daily game mechanics and thus creating various ""no point for Blathers assess fossil option, I miss having Blathers assess fossils, nothing to do daily" threads.

Sure it sucks kinda not having a reward for completing the fossils, but at the same time seeing them completed is enough of a reward in its own way. Museum Day gave us the plaques, which I thought were going to be museum rewards naturally, so I'm content.

But ya, I'm still in favor of a fossil NPC, maybe even have a sea creatures NPC while we're at it.

i always thought that after an upcoming update, you would be able to sell blathers fossils for his “esteemed collection” for a slightly higher price than at nooks cranny.

man this is such a great idea ( ⌯᷄௰⌯᷅ ) i hate running back and forth to sell these fossils

Honestly, while the idea sounds pretty cool and could be useful, I feel like that just wouldn't be right or make much sense. I mean, Tom nook had to get a specialist like blathers to come to your island to identify these fossils, just because you dig them up a lot doesn't mean you have the knowledge to identify them correctly.

I would really like a reward for completing the fossil museum though. Even just a cool furniture item, for example a big t-rex statue to go with the monster statue. I could definitely see people being more motivated to complete the fossil collection if that were the case.

Hmm...true.

Maybe it could just be optional when you dig it up. Like when your inventory is full and it asks if you want to drop something. Dig it up, and the game says "I dug up a fossil. Should I identify it?"...
Perhaps treat them the same way they do recipes in that we have to "learn" them. With fossils, we could have an option to "identify."
