So...fossils are fine, assuming that you're still searching for new ones. But, what happens after that?

I'm pretty sure most of us have completed our fossil wing in the museum, and have grown exhausted with asking blathers to identify 4 fossils a day just so we can sell them. I've even seen people go as far as leaving fossils in a singular hiding spot to keep new ones from spawning. Which brings me to one very simple suggestion: why should you need to to identify fossils you already donated? Couldn't an argument be made that you've already seen the ID'd specimens, and your character would be able to ID them on his/her own? Also...you don't get a reward for completing the fossil portion of the museum. They could change that. Patch the game so that your reward for completing the fossil wing is a "degree" in identifying the fossils. You dig them up and they are already identified "as is" and can be sold directly at Nook's.

Omg yes. Honestly not sure why they didn't think of this or something else to spice it up. It's been the same for all games, granted so has bug catching and fishing, but being able to dig up fossils which are already identified by yourself would be so much less tedious.

they could just change the fossil door plate recipe mats to be 'any fossil'

also yes i need a reward for my fossils!! do they still give silver + gold shovels? i havent gotten any gold tools yet besides slingshot which is honestly pretty useless imo ))):
also i want an npc to sell fossils at a higher price too. gives more incentive to collect fossils. saw someone before say it could be a dog archaeologist that wants the fossils because dogs chew on bones!! just thought that was a cute idea

im tempted to cover my town in pathing and flowers to get fossils to stop spawning

i just let them rot in the ground tbh

but seriously that boy worked hard for his license it'd feel a little wrong to me if we could just do what he had to go to school to learn to do by seeing stuff enough times. Then again this is NH so giving the player more power with no context is par for the course

Dude, just bury six at the back of your island behind a cliff and no more will spawn.

Unfortunately, this isn't similar to Deckard Cain's situation of where a player has an option to use a scroll of identify. :ROFLMAO:

That's a cool idea! I think they could set it up as a reward for a full fossil collection, you could get a little "degree" and identify them yourself. You wouldn't identify the fossils right away when you dug them up (so you could still keep the item as a plain fossil if you wanted it that way, or wanted to use it in a DIY), but you could select them in your inventory to identify them! It'd save you a trip to Blathers that way~

That being said, I don't mind visiting Blathers everyday. My museum is close to my shopping area, and I do a full loop of the island anyway searching for the fossils in the first place.

I wish you could commission mini models of the fossils :(

I'd love that option again! Frankly, I have a feeling we'll get them eventually... maybe we'll get a new NPC who gives us DIYs for them, even? That'd be neat 😯 They could release a special fossil update, giving us the option to identify them, and introducing the mini-models 😉

I sell them and make bank. They sell pretty high. I’m not a bellionare like most ppl on here and still need to pay off my loans. Selling fossils and sea creatures are my to go profit.

Dude yessssss, we NEED to bring mini fossil statues back! I’m trying to make a fancy library/study and mini fossil models would be perfect.

I KNEW that wasn’t something I hallucinated while in the woods!

I was hoping for mini fossil figures like in New Leaf! Just in case, I'm collecting extras for every fossil. I don't have an issue having to assess fossils every time. It makes it more of a surprise if I got the one I needed or not. Also I didn't mind hiding fossils in New Leaf and definitely not in New Horizons since I can hide it better behind a cliff! Then I'll just be able to get the unassessed fossil when I want for the fossil doorplate without having to store some :)

I wish at the BARE. MINIMUM. that Blathers' dialogue would change after you get them all!! Yes dude I know that UNFORTUNATELY THE MUSEUM ALREADY HAS ALL OF THESE AND YOU WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THEM BUT YOU CAN'T SO YOU HAVE TO GIVE THEM ALL BACK TO ME OK. Argh!!! Unless we randomly discover new species, that isn't changing anytime soon, broheim! Same thing drove me bonkers in New Leaf and I really hoped they would change it, but alas. ALAS.

This reminds me of how he wasn't able to identify fossils on his own back in the first game, so the player had to mail in the fossil straight to the academy to be able to donate them. Boy put in that hard work after that game, he's allowed to flex his newfound skill. He made donating dino bones much easier for us all these years.

Gameplay wise though, I understand why people would rather identify fossils themselves. I just hoard fossils for a week then get them all identified on the weekends.

This would be a great addition! I really hope they're open to adding this in because all my fossils are just hidden in the ground behind something right now.

That would be super cool!!! I can totally see this being useful if you are searching for specific fossils to decorate your island, or just want to quickly sell them for bells like you said. I have completed my fossil exhibit, but since my island has become more developed I don't want to spend time searching for fossils, especially since they would spawn in really weird places (I have them all buried on my beach right now to prevent spawning). My sister on the other hand thinks searching for them around her island is worth the money and still sells 4 fossils every day, so she and others like her would definitely benefit from this.
