There is no new "2nd Anniversary" cake in the mail and no so called "update"

I am very sorry to say that there was nothing in the mail. I am a day one player from 2020 and there was nothing. I am just putting this out there if someone was speculating there was going to be update (despite Nintendo saying no more updates last year) and there is nothing "special" going on. So if anyone got their hopes up, that's a disappointment.

Me personally I am not surprised by this because I know for a fact that there was no such a thing has a "2nd Anniversary" update. I kinda blame some YouTubers for hyping it up as if it was going to be this "big" thing. You should always remember never trust what they say and never believe the rumors. I don't mean to sound like a Buzz kill or be negative but this is just the sad reality.

We never got an anniversary cake or thing the last time correct?

I'm more bothered by the fact that no one in the game (or the game for that matter) makes any acknowledgment to when you started your island. I know I'm going to sound like a broken record to many, but New Leaf and Isabelle gave you a little anniversary meeting with everyone around the tree plaza when it was your anniversary as mayor. You also got a furniture clock of the tree as well.

It wasn't long, it wasn't anything extraordinary, but it was something. It made it feel like they cared enough to give a nod (and to many other simple things) that the dev team in NH just couldn't be bothered to do. I know some or a lot will disagree with me, but it just feels depressing when a game from 10 years ago feels like it poured more of its soul than its successor from just 2 years ago.

Yeah we did last year with the "1 year anniversary cake" and I STILL have it to this day.
Oh wow that is pretty sad. They've even did less this time. If they don't want to keep adding an additional year to it, they could just do a generic anniversary cake and be done.

Could just be that they haven't updated it properly, but I wouldn't hold your breath on it.

At this point we just have to accept the fact that Nintendo clearly doesn't seem to care about brining updates to this game cause like I said they are no longer planning anymore updates. Also the game itself is pretty much "done" I know that will be a hard thing to accept but we have to move on. It will be a long time until the next mainline AC game whenever that will be in the future.

If the updates are done, does that mean we can time travel to 2022 Christmas and Jingle will now be there?

Tbh… yeah, I’m disappointed that there isn’t a tiny 2.0.6 patch bringing another cake.

The fact that the second anniversary falls on a Sunday, a day in which Nintendo never posts anything, means we’re also not getting a little drawing going “hey, it’s the second anniversary!” either, which is also disappointing.

I liked the event from NL (and it’s much better than what they did for the game’s actual first anniversary, where they gave out the bouquet you’d get from Leif in Japan only… when there was a perfectly good anniversary cake model left over from LGTTC! Didn’t even turn up again in Welcome Amiibo when they added this event, where they basically brought over most of the DLC items that weren’t in base NL), like the sapling clock too… but also dislike the fact you will get it every year. It’s a nice item, but I don’t need more than one (see also: villager pictures in both NL and NH, where they go from “a momentous occasion” to “I’m very good friends with you and you’ve done something for me, have another picture”) and this is a wasted opportunity to do something like the first-anniversary cake in NH, but for every successive year.

I also think it’s a wasted opportunity to do a little party in front of Resident Services, with a table with party stuff on (including the relevant anniversary cake) and balloons, and Tom Nook or Isabelle making a speech, and you getting the relevant cake at the end of it. Best of both worlds, there: some pomp and circumstance, and an actual reason to do it multiple times.

Unfortunately, this didn’t happen. I’m not gonna go “lazy Nintendo” because Nintendo are many negative things, looking into their history: Money-grabbing, underfunding, giving too little time so the devs can’t put everything they wanted in, “hey, you know you’ve been developing this thing for this console and you’re nearly finished? Start again for this console!”, and sometimes just comedically inept and out of touch… but I can’t ever call them lazy.

(In this case, it’s probably “stop making this game now, you’ve been making it for nearly 5 years” which is also “inept” and “underfunded”)

@McRibbie It's also worth noting that in the dlc Lottie and gang will hold a little party every time you come across a momentous occasion. I get that it's paid dlc, but that the main game couldn't have that same level when it's already $60 is something to look at. They may not be lazy, but their proprieties are in the wrong place.

And lets not forget that there are features that are locked behind the DLC that does affect the main the game. Remember that feature to customize your villager homes on your island. You actually need the DLC and complete most of it just to unlock it.

I feel like that is fair. Maybe they should had made it so you don't need to complete the whole game, but that it is locked behind the paid dlc makes sense.

Well if you recently restarted your island then you have no other choice but to get a 3 star rating and have K.K. Slider visit your island just to gain access to the DLC.

Yeah, we ultimately don’t know what happened with NH because we don’t work at Nintendo, and nobody who worked on it’s gone “hey, this is what happened to make it this way”… but it’s still a bummer nonetheless

Its weird because you would think the games media would interview Nintendo and ask them questions about the progress of ACNH but they never did.

Is that such a bad thing? Should everything be at our fingertips right from the getgo? I love the idea of progression based games. In a way being able to work on a villager's home is progression based since you have to go through all of the steps necessary.

Not unless if you transfer your Resident from a past island on the main switch to the 2nd switch with all the progress still being saved, but I get your point.

i wasn’t expecting a second anniversary update anyway, it’s sad that nintendo doesn’t care about the little things like we do. those youtubers are always hyping something up, they have nothing to post so they make clickbait.

Oh, I forgot It was the anniversary today, I really wanted another cake, I still have my other one, I don't know why I thought Nintendo would make just one more item 😔

Checked the mail and was sad there was no Cake. New Players on my Island got nothing.
Customizing the Cake for a 2nd Tier with Cyrus would have been nice.
