My island in NH and town in NL were borh based on Dragon Age which takes place in a medieval setting. My villagers do not go along with the theme, though if i had more villager space, I’d consider inviting Cole and Samson because two characters share their name in Dragon Age.
I don’t think matching matters; but I guess it depends on what you’re trying to do with the island or what vibe you want to achieve.
I hardly even noticed the villagers when I went to New Leaf dream towns. I wouldn't have cared if someone like Goldie was in a horror themed town. That's just me though, I don't know about other people.
this personally doesn’t matter to me. i’m going for a rustic/bronze sort of theme and my dreamies don’t match this at all. i think people should have whatever villagers they want regardless of whether or not they fit the theme - i think people, or at least me, are more interested in the island’s design rather than what villagers are roaming around aha
i think unless it was like a very specific story themed island or something it wouldn't really bother me? and even then if the villager looked out of place but their house exterior matched the theme i'd just shrug and keep exploring
For me, it would depend on the theme. If I visited a pastel island and some of the villagers were primary-colored, it might feel jarring in contrast with the theme. However, one of my favorite Dream Suite memories was from ACNL, when I visited a pastel, Easter-themed town but then realized the town tune was the theme song from "Halloween," and then Goldie called me "crapbasket."
In my old AHS dream town, I have villagers that don't all visually fit my mild horror theme, but their names matched characters' names from the TV show, and that's why I chose them.
Could very well just use all the colors but because my switch lite and my airport are both yellow ive been liking yellow and buying everything yellow.. personally i just do.. my least favorite color is red. But i also have a big pink theme going on.. i still use all the other colors though i just feel like yellow looks good with the whole theme going on
I feel like most of my villagers match my theme (Sailor Moon) so most are cutesy and pastel colours. I definitely have a villager or two who doesn’t quite match and I’m ok with that. Cyd is a red punk-ish cranky elephant who lives in my Japanese/zen themed area. So he doesn’t really fit at all haha but I love him anyways and people still really like my Island even with him there.
I definitely didn't care back in NL. It's cool when the theme is 100% uniform in an island if it's themed but it's way more important for people to have villagers they like. Plus with some themes in NL being so common for dream towns, that meant running into the same villagers over and over and that got kind of boring.
i have a cottagecore island and honestly i don't really care about getting the villagers most cottagecore islands you'd see on twitter have.
my villagers are my dreamies since nl/or are new dreamies from this game and i have them around because i like them
I would say to play to play your island the best way it feels more comfortable to you. You wouldn’t want to get rid of villagers just because they don’t match your theme, because then it might not be as enjoyable. Everyone is different.
That being said. My town also has a gloomy sort of theme going on. Not downright scary, and still possibly cute. My personal aesthetics has to do a lot with the color palette. I like black and grey colors and shabby looking things. So that’s what my theme will have. My villagers that I’ve picked out all have the same pallets going on. They are either grey or black. I’ve had this theme started on new leaf though so I sort of fell in love with these villagers back then ( though I did change a few). To me I like to my personal town to have a matching theme and villagers as well as matching town name, and character names.
I do like to see towns with matching villagers, but that’s just me. Like for example, if a town has an oceney name, I would like to see marina or the octupi. If it is a Christmas town, I want to see penguins, or reindeers. If the town has a cat name, I want to see cats.
It doesn’t really matter for me if my villagers don’t match my island’s whole theme as long as I like them. As for visiting other themed islands it’s cool to see the dedication that other players have with matching villagers to their themes. Case in point is Aika’s village. It added to thew whole scary/horror factor that the villagers of Aika’s village didn’t include pastel or brightly coloured animals. But personally, I don’t think I can match them since I feel that would be too constricting.
It does not matter. Just do what you want to do, that is what matters.
If you are someone who wants to pick your 10 dreamies and keep them forever, I suppose you could try and match the islanders to the island theme. But if you are someone who doesn't have a set 10 and wants to have as many as you can to change it up, then don't bother matching them.
I have changed my theming somewhat (I’m going for majority species now) but I still love the species I’m going for. I have no beef with anyone making a theme so long as they like the villagers within the theme: sometimes you just want to have your town without villagers that clash with the overall theme!
I have a winter themed island. I tried to have all deers to go with the santa theme but I was to ecstatic about the houses except for Erik. I eventually went all penguins to fit the theme a bit better.
Eh, matching villagers sound nice on paper, but if every last unsettling/horror island in the world had the same ones, that would get pretty boring. Ultimately it's your island and you should keep the villagers you like.
I'm trying to match house exteriors on my own island as much as possible, but I imagine it's going to be pretty jarring to visit my sorta fairytale town and suddenly be in Raymond or Eugene's modern office houses.
