The Villager Tier System: Loving it or Hating it

Do you like the tier system?

It's sort of like bullying. The lower tiers are getting put down because 'nobody' likes them? I don't like the tier system? In my opinion.

I'm pretty okay with it. I like it because it gives me the average price of a certain villager that I may be looking for and it's really helpful.

On the other hand, I dislike it because a lot of people have been making threads about 'your favorite tier 5 villager!' etc etc
It's really annoying and tbh we should just make a pinned thread about that topic.

Not too fond of it for the same reasons that other people have stated. It makes popular villagers hard to afford, and unpopular villagers hard to find. Plus, everyone has different taste. Even the most unpopular villagers are loved by someone.

I voted no, but to be honest, I don't play online, so I just ignore it when it comes to taking in villagers in my towns. I dislike the idea of buying and selling villagers, so it's best for me to just stay out of those threads all together.

I have a mix of villagers, but I base it on how well I get along with the various personalities, not some arbitrary list.

I don't like it because I feel like it makes people feel bad about their towns if they have a Tier 5 villager (or a Tier 3 and lower, for that matter). People should be able to play however they want, and not worry about other people coming in and saying, "You don't have all Tier 1 villagers, lmao, loser". And not that everyone does, but I'm pretty sure everyone out there knows about the Tier System, and some will judge someone's town entirely based off of the villagers they have. u v u

There was a thread two weeks ago from someone saying they were worried about having certain villagers because other people might not like them. It makes me sad to see people feel that way. ; n ; We should all be able to play the game how we want to without letting other people judge us for it.

I'm on the fence with it; The set up and belittlement of low tier villagers follow the exact same set up as another site I'm familiar with when it comes to trading and such to the point where I'm quite used to it. There are probably some people who judge other's towns by villagers but those seem to be really more the exception than the rule.

I've said since the very beginning that I think it's unnecessary. Too many people let it influence who they will or won't have in their town and will let it impact how much joy they get out the game. It also has too much weight in trading, which I think should be up to the individuals rather than influenced by a 'market' (which is exactly what people dreaded the idea of villager trading becoming back in mid-2013).

If you want to rank villagers do it based on your personal preferences, not based on what the majority says. Like who you like, not what the list tells you to like.

I did not know about the tiers for a long time. I liked Jambette, Gloria, and other tier 5 who lived in my town. I hated Julian. I found out about the tiers a few weeks later. I was shocked to see my favorite villagers there and I couldn't believe all the Jambette haters. Julian is a tier 1, that shocked me the most. I still hate him. Anyway, I started to dislike Tier 1 because they were too popular, and I don't like it if every town has Marshal, Merengue, and Diana. I am wondering how the towns would look like without the tiers. I voted no.

It doesn't really affect me, but I do like seeing people scramble to get the next best villagers. Sorry, but I find desperation, over what seems to me the most meaningless things, to be quite entertaining. XD

I think we need more tiers. So many are just thrown in the last tier and as other posters said, then just get auto-voided. Many of the villagers I like are popular, but not all of them. I feel for the people who have dreamies in the later tiers because it must be impossible to find. I personally will try to find a home for each villager in my town because I still value them, even the ones I don't like.

I don't really care too much. Having it around doesn''t make me hate villagers that are low on the list.

I do find it annoying that a lot of people have the same tier ones in their town. The amount of people with Diana or Zucker in their town is astounding. But, it's just a game. Play how you want.

The way I see, tier lists are meant for competitive games, like fighting and MOBA ones. It isn't supposed to gauge popularity, instead it serves the purpose of gauging the potential of a character. Characters don't have potential in Animal Crossing, there is no competition in the series, so the idea of this game having a tier system is kinda ridiculous.

Also, don't get me wrong, because I am not saying "tier one" villagers are bad in general, but it is thanks to the tier system that some awful villagers are overpriced while some interesting ones are auto voided. But the worst part to me is how influential a tier list can be for people. It is really easy to notice that some people are only interested in certain villagers because they are tier one.

So in short: I "hate" the tier system, but in the end it doesn't affect me that much.

i quite like it? it makes it easy to find where your favourite villagers rank, therefore how easy/hard they will be to come by, and for how much.

however, it is awfully hard to find villagers who aren't in at least tier 3. two of my favourites are in 4, another in 5, and they are seldom sold or even given away. it's bitter-sweet, i guess.

I do find it annoying that a lot of people have the same tier ones in their town. The amount of people with Diana or Zucker in their town is astounding. But, it's just a game. Play how you want.

That's why they are considered tier 1, because everyone wants them.

I like it because it's a nice way to earn a few bells when you're sick of a certain villager that you have that happens to be popular, but I feel like it's unfortunate if your favourite villager is on tier one because you'll have to save up a lot of money just to get them - It's good and bad, it certainly could be improved.

I don't mind the tier system. It's only based on Bell Tree villager popularity, not the entirety of the animal crossing community villager popularity. Personally I don't use it, most of my villagers are a mix of the tiers and when a villager moves out I generally give it away for free since most people are picky (not wanting a non original villager). I think that it's a very helpful guide however, for people who want to know the demand for certain villagers so they can set prices accordingly.

Isn't it kind of useful? People are going to naturally increase prices of villagers by observing supply and demand, and making a list of them into tiers just makes it easier to refer to, so it's easier to navigate the villager market.

I really don't blame people for liking the cute/pretty/whatever villagers best. I think the judgement can be too harsh, and the list of "popular" ones is disappointingly slim, but still.

Would you say that the tier list is arbitrarily setting unfair value to certain villagers over others, or are you criticizing people's general preference towards "better" villagers which creates a need for tiers?

And for people who don't really know how to price things, the list is a goof reference. They don't end up selling it too high or low, and don't buy it too high or low.
