I just picked who I thought looked best. Then I tried to get one of each personality, but I didn't like too many of the jocks and smugs. But I ended up grabbing Jacques because he is a cool little hipster Crow. I might move Stinky into my town after awhile.
But I could definitely have a town full of Lazy villagers.

More or less, these have all been animals I've loved since they were introduced. For ones not new to New Leaf, I've had each of them in my town at some point and were the ones I was closest to so they are all really special to me.
As for the New Leaf ones, I had been closely following the game and reading up on everything I could find once it came out which included seeing the new villagers. Merengue was the first of the new villagers I fell in love with and I just found the others also really adorable.
Marcie and Julian are pretty interesting as while I also adore them quite a bit, they almost didn't make the list--I was stuck between several favorites for the last two slots and decided to just pick whoever I ran into first--Marcie ended up coming into my alt town and Julian ended up being my first camper...unfortunately, I couldn't move him in at that time so bleh ._.
Coincidentally, my town is mostly very fantasy-esque and obviously from the name, Pink and semi-water-themed so it uses lots of pink with some white, blue (for the water), and brown--which actually fits the color scheme of the animals I picked perfectly XD

I feel you on the jocks, but now I just really want bam and rudy, who figure .__.;
I still haven't decided on all of my dream villagers, but I know that I'm at least (probably) going to stick with Gruff, Tammy, Bianca and Naomi. One of the biggest things I wanted out of my New Leaf town was all new villagers, not necessarily villagers introduced in New Leaf but villagers I've never had before. I'd like a villager of each type but it's really difficult to narrow it down... There's so many cute normal villagers I want.
