At the beginning of the game, I didn't mind getting spoiled with lists of fish and bugs to catch in certain months. However, in the past couple of months, I've decided it didn't matter. I didn't have to catch every fish or bug the first time around. So I was just passing by the mouth of the river today when I saw a big shadow. I thought, why not, let's catch it, been a while since I went fishing. It was a king salmon! I didn't know I could catch one. I ran all the way to the museum with a stupidly big grin on my face.

It's fun to play and make discoveries like this. I felt like a little kid again.

What about you? Do you try to avoid spoilers and discover whatever it is each new season brings? Or do you prefer to be efficient and know what is available for you to catch? What about other things like villager dialogue? Do you prefer to be surprised in your own encounters and try to avoid other players' screenshots to avoid getting spoiled? Or would you rather know because it may not happen at all for you if you don't have certain personalities or species on your island?

In the beginning of the game, I was all excited to find things on my own because everything to collect were blank slates.

But when you're winding down on the last 5 fish, bugs, etc; the wait game is a bit more unbearable. That's where I look for specific information how to find them.

As for villager dialogues, that doesn't affect me and despite their conversations being repetitive, I'm probably not going remember someone else's villager dialogue.

Honesty, I like the idea of surprises. :)

However, surprises can also make you feel disappointed.

For instance, I didn't know what to do with the wedding event last time. After reading some guides, I discovered that you can earn a maximum amount of heart crystals per day by filling the room with chairs. I regretted not going for the maximum amount on those days I experimented with my own decorations. :(

I like surprises. :)
Of course, it's difficult not to have anything spoiled with the internet, but I try to avoid any "spoiler". Even if I bump into one, sometimes ACNH surprises you anyway. For example, I knew acorns and pine cones would come with the fall, but I didn't know how you would get them. I supposed you would find them on the ground just like tree branches. Imagine my surprise when I didn't find any on the ground and when one acorn fell from a hardwood tree lol.

I personally find fishing and such much less tedious if I'm constantly pulling up random things and don't know what I'm looking for, because otherwise it feels like a grindfest of fishbait and 'nope, not it'
but I do tend to look up what the general area is of the last fish I need so I can make like a route of checking the pier, river mouth and pond for example

i enjoy surprises when it's small things, but if it's something important i'd rather know how i have to do it and what i'm supposed to get, otherwise i get anxiety that i'm missing something xD so yeah, even though i enjoy surprises, my stupid anxiety makes me research everything beforehand ┐(´∀`)┌

I don't really like surprises. I'm too curious and want to see the rewards of a new event beforehand, because then I know if it's worth the effort. I also don't mind spoilers but I rarely see any.

That said, I'm not looking up everything, just when I want to know. I often fish and dive without knowing what creatures to look out for this month but then check if I've got everything at the end. It's fun to find out that I've missed something and that gives me a bit of a challenge for the last days of a month.

I do like surprises, so I tend to not check for new bugs and fish etc at the beginning of the month, but once I'm catching the same things over and over again I'll look and see what I've missed because chances are it's a more challenging creature so I then get the fun of that (or not, depending on how hard it is to get) as opposed to the fun of discovery

In theory, I like the concept of surprises; however, I don't particularly have much time to deal with surprises. Getting all the new catches in a month can take some time, depending on how rare the bugs, fish, and sea creatures are, so I typically leave these tasks for the weekend, especially if stuff can only be caught around my typical working hours on weekdays.

I'm of the same mindset for seasonal materials and DIY recipes -- it's nice to know how many there are, how much of each material is required to craft the new recipes, etc. so I know when I can stop farming balloons or shaking trees, as there are plenty of other things I would rather be doing. :P

The fish and bugs are sort of the same thing from NL so I kind of had a basic idea when they would be coming back and I found most that way. So it wasn't much of a surprise. If this is someone's first game or they came back to NH after being away for a long time I can see how they'd find the critterpedia more surprising than me.

For me it was the pinecone and acorns. That was a surprise a few months ago before someone mentioned it. So when I got to the month I was ready to try to get some and then I just gave up. It's not fun and it's way to grindy for my tastes.

I'd rather them give us some ideas of what to expect for updates. That's a surprise sort of to. The only one I was surprised about was diving. But it was more of like a 'Finally!' surprise and less of a 'This is so amazing!' even though I still liked

Or at the very least tell us when the basic stuff is coming back. We still don't know when the Roost and the shop's third upgrade is coming. Like really...is this 2nd shop the last upgrade because that would be pretty disappointing. I feel like the shop's upgrade shouldn't have been locked behind an update that hasn't yet came in half a year. That's just sad. It should be progress related.

I go in not knowing what fish, bugs, and sea creatures are available to catch. I get surprised every time I catch a critter that made their first debut in this game. Sure, I may have missed catching some of them during their respective seasons, but I'm in no rush to complete them. It only makes the completion of the museum much more satisfying (I finally 100% completed my New Leaf museum earlier this year)!

I like surprises, so I didn't read any guides. The only things that I knew about it was the stuff in the direct and my knowledge of other animal crossing games I've played. Besides a couple of beetles I missed this summer, I've
pretty much caught up on the critterpedia and have a filled fossil section in my museum. There's plenty of time next summer to go beetle hunting anyways, and maybe Nintendo will fix the problem with bug spawns by then.

For fish & bugs, I initially went in blind and it was fun! But now that I’m towards the end and almost finished, I like to know what’s available & when they’re leaving so I can try to catch them in time

I do try to keep the seasonal changes mostly a surprise tho since I want to keep something a surprise for now! But being online makes it a bit difficult to keep everything a mystery 😅

I like surprises, but I don't mind getting spoiled for this game tbh! if it was another game with an intense story line, then yeah I'd rather not get spoiled for those 0:

I like to be surprised :) I don't look up events or items. I might look seasonal DIYs up once I *think* I've completed everything. Just so I don't miss out. However, for bugs and fish, I never search it up unless I search for "things leaving this month" kinda stuff. But I always search it up once the month is over so I can't try to catch it anymore and would have to wait. I've already missed a bunch lol but I can wait til next year! After my 1 year anniversary with the game, I will start looking them up.

i honestly love surprises in terms of gameplay but when it comes to fishes, bugs and sea-creatures, i always search up a guide at the beginning of each month to see what’s new and how to catch it - if i didn’t do that, i have a feeling that i’d be missing quite a bit of critters :P

I like surprises, but I didn’t mind being “spoiled” about some things in the game on twitter or here while waiting for my switch lite and game to come. In fact, in spite of wanting to wait to see the items in the game when I got it, I looked them up on the data base. I was extremely disappointed needless to say but that honestly hasn’t stopped me from enjoying the game as fully as I have been :).

Now if this was a game with a story, yeah I would not like spoilers. Like I’m behind on one anime and I haven’t gotten far in the manga and someone in the comments of something an anime company tweeted today about my favorite character said RIP; even if they’re wrong, i hate comments that give the slightest hint of spoiling something like that ><. Now, I’m nervous about my favorite character.

I kinda like both. I like not knowing about Halloween, for example, because that content isn't ready yet so even TTers haven't given clues or straight up spoilers about it. (No shade to TTers just in terms of surprises vs. not). But as others have said, sometimes it's better to know. So for fish and bugs, the first week I just let myself be surprised by new catches, but as the month progresses I check on what I absolutely need to catch that month.

I love cataloging all the things, but I have tried not to look at the winter stuff too much because I like being surprised by new seasonal clothing. I have seen a lot of it, but not ALL of it, so yeah.

I haven't TTed into the future because I want to experience the fall stuff during the fall season, since it's my favorite time of year and I really want to enjoy total fall immersion. So yeah, I've saved some of that for a surprise, though not all of it naturally since I've seen many photos of mush and autumn furnitures.

I'm excited that Nintendo is staggering the release of content. At first it felt frustrating, but I never expected to be playing this game SO MUCH. Pandemic times are crazy times. This staggered release has forced me to wait for some content and I'm really glad about that. I'm really looking forward to whatever surprises Nintendo has in store for us!

In the beginning I was clueless and it was hella fun to discover everything! Then I started looking stuff up ab the game and now I know everything and there's not much to discover, so... it's not all that fun anymore oof : p Which is why when the fall update is announced I will be staying away from my computer to discover anything they add by myself lol
