We all know of the new Animal Crossing 3DS news posted in the AC 3DS forum but believe it or not there was other news besides Animal Crossing! Here's a summary of the big news that's relevant to those of us outside of Japan.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 for the Nintendo 3DS

Nintendo will be releasing a new sequel to the original New Super Mario Bros. from the DS onto the 3DS this August.

New System Update for the Nintendo 3DS

There's going to be a new System Update released this upcoming Wednesday here in North America. With this update brings Folders! Now you'll be able to create folders on your 3DS's home screen and add games/apps to folders making it easier to organize your home screen. The other big addition is the ability for Nintendo and third parties to PATCH THEIR RETAIL GAMES!!!! This is a big deal for Nintendo as they have never allowed patching in the past. What's great about this is... Nintendo will finally be patching Mario Kart 7 to fix the damn Maka Wuhu shortcut glitch! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

20th Anniversary of Kirby Special Disc for the Nintendo Wiii

To celebrate this year's 20th anniversary of Kirby Nintendo will be releasing a special compilation disc this year featuring all of your favorite Kirby games on one disc!

I am assuming that this ISN'T the Super Mario 4 that Nintendo has a domain registered for, am I correct?

I'm kind of getting tired of the NSMB games. They all have the same level designs and there really is no differentiation. I wish we could get some sort of new look. I'm sure they could come up with something different. I'll still end up getting it, but They just keep adding more and more gameplay elements to a repetitive game. I wish they could take something like Super Mario 3D Land and combine it with this to add a little more of a differentiation.

Otherwise, I'm excited for AC3DS.

Okay I'm getting so sick and tired of all these NSMB games. I didn't buy the first one, I'm not going to buy this one. Nintendo get your **** together and make a new game.

I'm sorry for your misfortune then.

As for Sock's outburst.. I wouldn't get so up in arms about it. This one seems to go right back to SMB3's ways with the leaf being just the tail/ears, not the whole tanooki suit.
The past NSMB games were like the first Mario and then Lost Levels/2, where as this really is coming back to 3.
But really, why would Nintendo stop producing games that they know can make money? The last few 2D Mario games were amazing and sold really well.

@Sock/Bidoof/Andy: I agree with Andy, if you're going to make money on something, why wouldn't you make it? I've played all of the nsmb games and they are all good, I expect nothing less for this one. It also probably won't be exactly the same. However, I do agree that they should make a new game, they just shouldn't bypass something that they know they can sell copies of to make something that could be a complete flop.

On the subject of NSMB 2 I just want to point out it's really not that bad. It's not like they release one every single year like Call of Duty. This is only the third game and the release dates are 2006, 2009 and now 2012. Three years isn't that bad plus no more then once on a platform.

I'd prefer them to make a game like Sunshine/Galaxy - I know SM3D land was kinda like that, but it still didn't feel right.

If they stuck to the Sunshine mechanics it would be an awesome game. I felt like Mario didn't really weigh anything in Galaxy, whereas in Sunshine it felt like gravity actually had an effect. Plus Sunshine is better overall, in my opinion.

Sunshine is by far better than Galaxy. I just loved in those games how there was like a home town (the ship in galaxy and Delfino Plaza in Sunshine) - so if you didn't feel like playing you could just explore. But obv this was better in sunshine as there was much more to do in Delfino Plaza that the space ship. And I miss F.L.U.D.D :'( And portals, i miss everything from Sunshine - I don't know how they went so downhill with galaxy..
