The perfect map.

I was pretty obsessive with my map resets, i was super picky and ended up reseting for like 2 months. Overall, I lucked out with my rocks, they seemed to be out of the way or I somehow made them work. I would of liked to have apples as the native fruit only because the perfect apples look the best to me but it's not a big deal to me anymore.

I remember when I played WW I had to keep resetting since I kept getting peaches as my town fruit (they look like little butts to me lol) But, I got the perfect layout on my first try with NL and cherries. I am picky about grass shape, triangle is my favorite, its the most grassy to me lol

Are you planning on making a special dream town? Do you really, really need half of those features? I suspect that sometimes people get really lost in resetting. People should do whatever makes their game more fun, of course, but when people complain about how long it takes to reset for a map that fits all of their criteria, it makes me wonder if they forgot the point of the game. If I were you, I'd look at some of those features as a nice bonus and really only look for the ones that make a big difference (like the location of Re-Tail, since some locations are more practical than others depending on the person). If you end up with a map that is just really bad, you can always reset and try again.

Oranges are your fruit, for example, unless you really love the perfect version, there's no need to reset for them. You can plant them in any other towns too.

Well I planned on making a dream address.
My first main town was mostly to get the hang of things. I also didn't know you got map options. As it was my
First AC game. So I chose the first one.

I did finally find a good map.
Only 5 Permanent rocks, peaches as fruit,
Retail is in the upper right corner. Plaza and town hall are right next to each other. And only one pond. The only thing is
The river is horizontal and then ends at the bottom just before getting to the other side. Which I can deal with. I'm pretty happy with it.

Well, honestly about the rocks, there's not any more then 3 big rocks are where I live. Why are there so many in game? And in real life we can move rocks. Can we move rocks in game. JANK! JANK I TELL YOU! ;)

The only criteria I originally had for a map was an intimate cove/island where I could place my house without fear of villagers moving in right in front. Took awhile with resetting (my original map was incredibly awkward and I had 9 rocks! 9! ridiculous!) but I'm pleased with my fruit (peaches) and the map is wonderful, the river cuts it in such a way that it creates lots of spots for small "secret" places, it's lovely. :) Good luck on your resetting journey! You'll find it eventually, just be patient.. watch movies while doing it, lol.

My main town is okay because I've worked around it's imperfections, but it's really cramped because of the way my villagers have their houses placed (I picked up a few dreamies before I started landscaping and plot resetting) but my second town map is very similar, except all of the things that I didn't like about my main were fixed. It's like the perfected version of my main and I love it!

I agree: rocks. are. terrible.

I found a few pretty good maps when I resetted, but then there were too many rocks, or they were in very inconvenient places. I didn't really care about which native fruit I had, or the starting villagers. The ponds were a bit of a nuisance but I figured that I could work my way around some of them, however, the goddamn rocks kept getting in my way.

In the end I settled for an overall decent map, but it had 7 or 8 rocks (can't remember from the top of my head), but luckily they weren't in the worst places. As for the ponds, I have three of them, but two of them I managed to work splendidly with. The other one is alright, I guess. And I'm pretty lucky to have Static, Fauna and Peanut as three of my five starters! :D and i also got marshal on the next day in a convenient place as well omfg

But I really, really, really hate my first town.
It's not because of the rocks or ponds, but it's my own fault for not villager plot-resetting properly. I don't really mind it, but I find that it makes it very difficult to decorate the town which was probably one of the reasons I stopped going on it and got a new town instead. I still go on it occasionally to take some money or items out and whatnot. After all, I did have this town since August 8th 2013 and I guess it is my town, after all...

Rest in Peace :(

I had no idea people even did things like that when I first started playing New Leaf at release. I didn't even know about it when I remade my town a few months later. But, I do have to say had I known I'd probably have picked a different map for my main town. There's just a few nagging issues I have with it - Re-Tail is placed at the bottom of the map right near the beach ramp and town hall is beside it. Aside from that I never really cared and I've enjoyed my town for the most part.

With that said, I did spend about a week resetting my second town when I made that until I found a map with a better river design and Re-Tail placement. Like some people have said here, I think people take resetting for the perfect map a bit too seriously, almost any map can be made into a delightful little town.

I just got the perfect layout on my new cycling town. ;U;
One pond, town plaza in front of the stairs, symmetrical river and cherries.
I wish that I could switch over to this town to main it, because tbh I like it a lot more than my main town's layout. I just don't want to loose my progress and my lovely villagers.
also i need quick tbt.

I didn't really take it too seriously
I reset for a few hours and found a good one. I just didn't want rocks everywhere.
I finally found one with only 5 permanent rocks. One pond, and placements were good. My only complaint was the river didn't end on the side, but went horizontal and then ends at the bottom. But it's not too bad.

I didn't want oranges. I don't like them. I know some people will reset for a long time because they HAVE to have circle grass, with apples, museum on a certain side, beach a specific way, river a certain way. Etc.
I only cared about not having oranges, few ponds, and wanted my buildings up top.
And I was trying to refrain from a vertical or odd shaped river. Some rivers create little space for
Building PWPs.

The first time I started the game, I just picked one of the first 4 maps Rover showed me. I had no clue about what I wanted, because I was entirely new to the game.

I have recently reset, a few weeks ago. I did love my old town, but I was growing bored with it and grew annoyed with certain details of it (Retail placement, cluttered feeling etc.). I only did reset after thinking about it for 1-2 weeks, making sure for myself this is what I wanted to do.
It did take me two hours to find a good map, but I am so very pleased with it. I did not have too many requirements. I wanted my Retail on the top side, for easy traveling when I have visitors. The Plaza somewhere central and easy to reach, preferably with the Town Hall close. And somewhat of a straight river. On my old map I had a stair-wise river, and it started to bother me when I was out to catch fish and I had to zigzag a lot XD
I did pick a few maps and walk around to try it out, get a bit of a feeling about it. If it didn't feel good to me, I just cut the power and started again. I had a few decent and one or two very good maps, but then it didn't feel right.

Now I am really happy with my current town, and also with Gladys and Erik as starting villagers <3 I never had them before, but I've always liked the look of Gladys. Only minor things are that I should have placed my campsite better XD But I can live with it!
