I'm sure most of you already know that before Animal Crossing: Gamecube there was an N64 release called Animal Forest exclusive to Japan. What most people don't know is that a similar situation happened with New Horizons.

Animal Crossing: Horizons was a PAL exclusive release, so most people in North America probably don't know about it. There is evidence that development started all the way back in 8000 BC, however, due to a series of delays, it was finally released in 71 AD, with help from Nintendo's Italian branch. Upon release, it was known as Project Eboracum, but eventually became known as Animal Crossing: Horizons.

The game was critically panned, only selling around 200,000 copies. It is unknown why Nintendo decided to create New Horizons after its predecessor lost them so much money, but they seem to have learned their lesson and this new game is expected to sell very well.
