There was an entire (obviously successful) campaign to get Xenoblade Chronicles, among other games, localized for the Wii in North America. Obviously a large amount of people wanted to play the game, so much so that it sold more in North America than it did in Europe and Japan combined.Xenoblade isn't a valid example as it came out when the Wii loss its popularity and most of the people didn't even play the game. It didn't got any ad or campaign for rising its sales, and releasing it on a ''new'' console such as n3ds would rise its popularity and therefore its sales.
It released two years before the Wii U came out (in Japan and Europe, one year before in NA), and while the console may have been less popular than at the time it was released, Xenoblade Chronicles was still a success. It got great scores, won a bunch of awards, and sold better than expected.
By comparison, Xenoblade Chronicles 3D is selling like a poop sandwich. It has performed worse during its first few weeks than the Wii version did, and that's happening across all regions.
So I would say it is a very valid example.
