The Golden Compass

Well, I just finished reading part 1 and in chapter 8 I was shocked. There was something really fascinating that I really don't want to ruin. All I want to say is to buy this book and see what happens. If I say anything now, you won't enjoy it as much.

He means the author's plan to, how shall I say it, turn kids away from Christianity.

Says the minister.

You shouldn't fear any book.

I won't be seeing the movie unless it is Oscar worthy. If it isn't than it would just be feeding off of LOTR. There are a lot of movies I want to see right now (Hitman, Beowulf, etc.)
I'm predicting the movie to be good since the book is good.
That's not what happened to the LOTR franchise IMO.
The movies were twice as good as the books. The books were so horribly written. The only book I could stand to read by JRR Tolkien was The Hobbit.

Everyone has a right to an opinion so take advantage of that right and make it a good one. Those books are classics. There is no denying that.

I read an article in TIME about the books (Golden Compass) and I decided that I will do this. I'll finish this book that I'm reading. (I finished Catcher in the Rye last week and am 200 pages in a 800 page book) and this weekend I'll buy the Golden Compass book. Its the only fantasy book that really says that religion isn't that great all the time. A lot of people like it and it will be a nice break from the other series I'm reading that will I will probably be reading into the next school year and then some.

I may try reading this book as well after I finish the one I just started for English class. (Lord of the Flies)

Are you kidding me? You might want reconsider calling those books classics. There are millions of books better than the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Theres Flowers for Algernon, The Odyssey, The Oedipus Trilogy, Airborn, Each Little Bird That Sings, Red Kayak, Hana's Suitcase, Peter and the Starcatchers, Gregor the Overlander, Eragon, Maximum Ride, House of the Scorpion and A Wrinkle in Time. Need I continue?
