OK, let's try to keep this topic away from a religious discussion

;)

Actually, if you think about it they killed God in the Bible.... hey, Jesus was God in human form and he got killed so yeah.

As for the Lord of the Rings, they were really amazing and well written books, the only problem I have with them is he tries to create the world too well. It makes following the story a little harder when constantly injecting a ton of other information into it. It does make it a little more boring to read but they are still good books.

The book actually kills God? Wow... remember the novel I was writing? Essentially the goal of the antagonists is to kill God, and they get AWFULLY close to doing so.

Oh... Well... I have at least 5-6 chapters you guys didn't read, but... I'm fleshing out the ENTIRE thing. Like, adding a completely new chapter in the beginning. It's going to take place in a tavern, and essentially the only characters will be Jericho's father and a barman, discussing the recent events... the thunderbolts, remember?

Then I might add some chapters here and there in between already written chapters. You'll see. D:

Here's my two cents on the book series.

I read it a while ago, it seemed to be pretty standard fantasy fiction, but nothing eye-opening. I should probably say that I really am not into fiction writing at all anymore. Since the book is entirely fictional, I really don't see why there is such a huge deal about it, and the God killed in the book is a fictional God, not a biblical one (for you sunday-schoolers out there.) In all honesty, the ending to the series was rather well-written, but something about fantasy writing just annoys me, so I can't honestly say I liked it.

As with the book, I'm sure the movie does not have an malicious intent to kill God in the minds of children, as the bible-thumpers the world over are saying. God bless the bible belt and the KKK.

I have a few responses to the posts here.

First, I've done a good deal of research on the Golden Compass (which is the 1st of a trilogy). The entire trilogy was written to refute the "Christian themes" of CS Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia. The author has been quoted in The New Yorker magazine as to saying that if Christians have a problem with Harry Potter books, then they should really hate his trilogy because the main characters actually Kill God in the final book. I don't think that they pull this off in the new movie as it has been watered down so that it will interest children into reading the books where they will see the real message of the author to abandon religion (namely Christianity).

As for LOTR...someone needs to be smacked silly if they think that they are not classic books. The movies were brilliantly done (even if much was cut out from them...but the series would have been 24 hours long if they had put everything in the movies). The books are even better than the movies though (as are most books that get movie iterations). And a side question...How can Eragon be considered a classic if it less than 10 years old? Classics usually need to be 25 years old before they are even considered to be classics.

I'll take this opportunity to promote my favorite book, Wizards First Rule. Its being made into a mini series by the director of Spiderman. It doesn't talk about God at all really. The closest thing it gets to religious rise is the "creator" and the "keeper".

Just read it

@ DemiseofGanon: If that's the case I'll probably won't see the movie.

The second I saw this thread, I thought:

"I'm going to be pissed if anyone says its an atheist book"

Well, here I am.

Well, I've finished the first 10 chapters. They are really good. Once I finish the book, I'll update again.

When you call a book a classic that means it has a lasting significance. A book can be a year old and be a classic.

No. It has to last through time and still be popular. N-Sync was HUGE but after a while its gone. Eargon is well off but it hasn't been around that long.

I just finished the book. It's pretty good and they don't kill God.
Instead, it just ends with a minor conflict that isn't resolved.
Anyways, the book is good for the most part but if you want the full story, you have to read all 3 books.

"Pullman has said. 'I am of the Devil's party and know it.'"

Ya, if the author says that, and actually has God killed in the books, then there is no way I am ever going to read this book.
It is just messed up.
