• Good evening, everyone! We have an egg hunt announcement! An additional clue for egg #21 will be posted Monday at 6 PM EDT if it hasn't been found by then. The egg hunt will also be extended until Tuesday morning at 10 AM EDT.

The dreamieproof project

I don't particularly agree with you or disagree with you. I just play the way I want to play it. It is my game and I'll do it my way. I have several towns and they are all for different purposes. But I never would state that this or that "should" or "shouldn't" be done because that is just an opinion. If everyone in the world had their way on that there would be no world or living things because nobody would agree and it would all turn too ugly for words.

I'm glad this thread hasn't, tho!

I am very pleased that this game is so well done and well loved that people have strong feelings for it, their villagers, accomplishments, and more. To me it has no "point" other than to entertain us, which is does, in spades. :) Even a perceived "point" or "purpose" of something can be disagreed on, but still discussed civilly!

I really like this thread, btw. Nice!!! Oh, and welcome! I don't think I've seen you before. :)

Thanks! :) I re-joined in the beginning of April. And I'm glad too... I was seriously expected world war III to break out and I'd have to close the thread.

This thread was not intended to tell anyone HOW they should play, but more or less how I've seen a few users feel, and more recently, myself. I just feel my NL experience has becoming a little stale and generic, but then again, that's just me. People play how they please :)

I agree with you. I recently went back to just playing the game naturally - no dreamy hunting, no plot resetting, turned my street pass on - and it's much more enjoyable.

I was always excited to see who was the new villager moving in.I like surprises.None of my villagers are popular. One is tier 4 and the other 9 are tier 5.I never really understood the dreamie thing. But lately I have wondered if I'm missing out on something.I have thought it would be cool to have an all pig town.I'm just not sure if I want to take the time to try to get them.Plus, I have spent so much time decorating my town, I'm not sure that it's worth having my town messed up with new move ins.And I think I would miss all my old villagers that have lived in my town for the last 7 months.

I agree with a lot of this. I do have villagers I can't let go of right now. (about five) The rest of my list is always changing. I'd get bored I think if I kept the same ten villagers forever.

i agree with you
occasionally i adopt/buy but all in all i don't have any dreamies and i love when ugly villagers move in because i love to hate them

lol i just realized what was missing from my town, somebody to hate

I'm doing this for my second town. I like the idea! :D
And maybe I'll have 9 dreamies for my main town, so I can always invite different villagers from the camp, or adopt unwanted villagers from here.

Hm, yeah, I know the feeling. I have the villagers I wanted but the game has become a bit 'bleh' to me. I'm actually considering letting them all move and get completely new villagers. Not sure yet, though.

Do it! It will change it up a bit

You know what? I'm restarting my 2nd town. It's been looking like crap lately anyways. And I'm going to play day-by-day too and see how it goes.
IM GON' DO IT

Let us know how it goes! I'm still loving my slow life town, personally.

I think it's good that everyone can play however they want, with or without dreamies.
Not everyone enjoys the game in the same way. For me having villagers I dislike really takes the fun out of playing.
Good luck with your dreamie free town though, I don't think it's stupid, jusy another way of playing.

Yeah, I do agree with this!! I don't even know whose idea was to "sell" villagers.. I do buy them though, cause I want to have villagers I like. I don't see anything bad with villager trading or getting items you don't have yourself for them if someone wants them badly, buut getting huge amounts of bells for a one "popular" villager seems kinda stupid :D

For me, dreamies are a super cool thing and I'm really glad this forum exists so I can get mine! I'm really elitist when it comes to villagers haha and I can't stand having ugly/annoying ones in my town. For example, I just find Jock villagers so so annoying to talk to (not to mention I also usually dislike their design) and not having ANY is so great!! I also like having the same set of villagers always because you can come up with personalities for them, and backstories, and the friendships they have with your other villagers.

The other thing I will say is that I play animal crossing as a way to escape from reality and go to a happy, peaceful place. I can't do that if I hate its inhabitants!

Interesting to hear opinions! :) glad this hasn't turned ugly like I thought it would...

Of course, everyone has their respective ways of playing. I mean hell, I'm just like you guys; I've had and still do have dreamies. I just sometimes wonder why I paid all this money for them (even though I do love them) because it just feels a little unnatural to do that for me. Idk, I've just started feeling this way lately, and I was wondering if anyone else does too. Looks like it's a little mixed.
I haven't really paid for many of my dreamies (heck, I won marshal in a raffle lol) but in my 3rd town after I reset I'm gonna play all natural
I hope I can stick to it!
(also I freaking love the cat groove video so damn much)

Me too omg I'm addicted to it still.

I'm glad someone actually stepped up and posted something like this! It's refreshing to see many people's different opinions and play styles. I'm the same way as you, trenchdragon. While I do try to make sure that any new villagers coming to my town don't plop down in the middle of my paths or flowers, I like playing day-by-day and not constantly spending hours on the forum, hunting down 'dreamies' and spending millions of bells. I'd rather spend that time playing my game and wifi-ing with friends!
I took a long hiatus from the internet world and I was shocked when I came back to the idea of selling and buying villagers, because I've never considered that as how AC was meant to be played. But I'm happy that others have made it their goals to get certain villagers, and that they're having fun trying to accomplish those goals!

I actually gave in and bought a second copy of the game so that my boyfriend could play with me, but for now I'm using it as an extra town for selling fruit and experiencing new villagers. I have some popular ones, so if they ever decide to move out, I think I'm going to post on here giving them away to a good home! :)

I love this post because the beauty is that it can go the other way. Until I came here I didn't know about "dreamies" or plot resetting or...lots of things. Now that I do I find it has made my playing much more fun.

So I can see how it can go either way. But...since I have several towns I do each one differently so I can experience ACNL in different ways. But I like the choice of either going with the flow of the game or working to get villagers and goals/items that I want. :)

Very interesting thread. It's great that we can discuss different playstyles like this.

I'm 50/50 on this issue. There's only one villager that I couldn't live without due to a lot of sentimental value, and that's Bones. I'll probably be willing to let everyone else leave somewhere down the line. This forum opened my eyes to the world of "dreamies" and all sorts of trades. To me, everyone just has their own playstyles and preferences and I'm fine with that. It reminds me of the great debate over "to TT or not to TT."

In Wild World I didn't care much about house placements and villagers because quite frankly, I ignored most of the villagers to begin with. Looking back, that probably took a chunk of the fun out of the game. With PWPs in New Leaf, I planned out areas where I want to place them well ahead of time. Since it's such a pain to plot reset villager houses to not block my PWP sites, I decided that it'd make life easier to simply keep the villagers I like, instead of having constant move-ins. After getting some villagers from my friends' voids that I couldn't bring myself to like, I started campsite resetting in hopes of finding ones that I could live with and recently adopted three from other people.

I could totally understand what you meant by always looking forward to meeting someone new and the excitement of an ever-changing town. I once felt sad that I knew most villagers by name. However, with my preferred style of play, having consistent neighbours is part of that experience, that I could have a history with them and pop in and enjoy hanging out with everyone after a stressful day.
