Hiya guys, I'm Lottie. I'm a big serial-resetter in ACNL, I nitpick over the stupidest little things and constantly find excuses to reset. It's super addicting, sadly. But I've come up with a way to break the cycle. I recommend this to anyone who finds themselves constantly resetting, or for those of you who have become bored of your towns and want a challenge.

Deal With It Challenge
To do this, you must reset your town. Make sure your clock on your 3DS is the accurate, real time, and start up ACNL.
Once on the train, name your character, name your town, and make sure to answer the questions Rover asks to match the face that you want.
But here's the catch. When Rover asks you to choose a map, you will select the very first map that pops up. Do not look at the others. So your not tempted, once the map shows up, don't even look at it, just press 'Here!' immediately.
Upon arriving, you cannot restart, you cannot quit, you must pick a location for your house and start your journey in this town. Make sure to save as soon as possible.
It's recommend that you do not Time Travel, as the point of this is to be very challenging. So if you skip days so PWP's are built faster, and the town looks 'better' in a very short time due to TT-ing, it really defeats the purpose. So please refrain from changing that clock. I know it's tempting. But it'll be worth it. You'll feel a much deeper sense of accomplishment in the end.

The challenge is that you are probably going to be given a town that you don't like at first. The neighbors probably won't be those that you want, nor the native fruit, river-shape, etc.. But you will eventually learn to love your towns little quirks and perks in ways you didn't imagine you ever would. You might even develop a friendship with a very un-popular villager, and they may even become your all time favorite. This is challenging because your forced to make a town, that you most likely hate right off the bat, your own.

I dunno, I know this is dorky, I just thought it seemed like a fun, interesting idea at the time. I'm doing it right now as I type this. I'll edit my post with details about the town soon. This is so exciting~!♥ Let me know if you guys decide to try it. :3

edit: Welcome to the town of Awa!♥
Very first map, very first start-up~
Mayor Name: Lottie
Town Name: Awa
Train Station Color: Red
Town Hall Color: Plain/Grey (Looks like the CF one)
# of Ponds: 3
Fruit: Apples
Grass Pattern: Triangles
Beach Side: Right-side (East beach)
Villagers: Angus, Velma, Papi, Tia, Hamlet
First thoughts?: At first it was a bit shaky, because I'm so used to nitpicking and specifically choosing a map that I know I like, but then it gradually got better. The neighbors seemed rocky at first, I wasn't sure I liked any of them, but I can see myself learning to love them all. Maybe not Velma, but having an enemy in your town is always fun, right? I love Apples, so luck was on my side with the fruit. I also found a neat, secluded spot for my house, which is nice. So far so good. I wonder who will move in tomorrow. Eee, so excited!

This 'challenge' is actually very similar to my usual play style. I'm still with the same town I created on the day of American release, I pretty much never reset, and I only time travel to catch up on days I missed if I can't play for a week or more. (That and to sometimes set the clock behind real time by an hour or so, because I'm a night owl sort of person that doesn't like it to be dark every single time I play)

This is how i want to play animal crossing so so so much
the natural way, the way i did in gamecube or wildworld
I didn't have to have cute villagers or sheep or my favourites.. i became best pals with the ones i had in my town, i let those i didnt like move and it was just really natural...
I accepted anyone who moved in, and it was so exciting seeing some new name i'd never had before
I enjoyed having enemies..

Now i'm too obsessed with resetting for cute villagers and just eurgh
i want a natural town!!

I play this way. No time traveling, no resetting. I recommend it. It must be very stressful trying to control every element of the town all the time. Some of those super planned out towns admittedly look gorgeous but they always feel kinda fossilized to me. Not a tree out of place and nothing can ever change.

That's pretty much what I do. I let villagers live where they move the first time and I don't have a list of villagers I want. I honestly think people put too much stress on themselves by wanting everything to be perfect.

I like the idea a lot. But of course I couldn't give up my lovely villagers I have now.

and maybe because I TT a lot..
and because I dislike a lot of villagers... hah.

I like it, but I won't be doing it simply because I'd rather not reset all my progress, and I won't be getting a second copy of the game any time soon (I never actually tried to get a good layout, but I did say no to Rover about 3 times just cause.) Nice idea, though!

That is pretty much how I already play except for the villager part. Sorry, I had to have my cuties!
I do have a second copy but it is strictly for cycling villagers but maybe one day I will do this.

This is how I started. New Leaf is my first AC game, and I didn't visit site until my join date.
I started with my map and I thought my starters were awesome (except Camofrog lol)

It's kinda funny how this is a challenge, even though it's really the way the game "should" be played. People can play how they want, I TT and everything, but this is the way the game was designed to be played.

I play half of my game like that. No joke, I resetted three weeks for my dream map because my map had to be perfect, but I don't time travel and I let villagers move to the places they want to move - except for my dreamies. Those have to go to places which are at least acceptable (Dotty, the only dreamie I have so far, wanted to move in in front of my house, which is already in a narrow space. Nope, Dotty, sorry, you needed to find another place). That said...I resetted my map in WW horribly often as well because I wanted an island. But yeah, starting villagers never mattered to me.

This sounds like a really nice idea, but I won't reset my game, of course. I don't think AC is a game meant to be reset.

I think this is a cool idea, and although I might try it, most likely I wouldn't. Still, I chose the "I'll think about it" option. :) I probably would do it if I knew a lot of people were doing it so I wouldn't feel alone, but even then it might be tough because some people are quick to judge.
I think this is really unique!

I already have my original town and I do not make a big deal over villagers and where they put their houses. It is a cool idea, but I won't be doing it.

Wow, I completely forgot about this thread. Newbie mistake, haha. -facepalm- Thanks for all the feedback, glad I got some discussion going about it.

I did this method today (would have done it yesterday, but I promised my brother I'd play Pokemon X&Y with him) and got my town this evening. Very first map, very first start-up. ♥ I'll edit my first post with details.

Good for you then. I wish I didn't nitpick before and stick with a town. But now I'm not, and I'm sticking with it. This is just a suggestion to those who have trouble stopping the resetting loop. I'm glad you're happy with the town that you have, though. ^^
