I won with a horned hercules (140 points). I was pretty confident about my entry (and wasn't interested in the furniture) so I didn't bother handing it over untl 5:55pm. ^^;

I am winning with a Horned Atlas worth 119 points. I got 4 new pieces of the Bug Set today.
My alt character is currently in third with a 42 point Darner Dragonfly. I hope she can sustain that place because I need the Bronze Trophy.

Last time I won with just a oak silk moth, so i stocked one away for this competition... but only for use at the end. Right now, i'm trying to get nothing but 80+ value bugs that are around to get more of the bug set. Next time, i might stock up on a bunch of oak silk moths though...

I wish I would have read these before turning in my Horned Hercules, hah. I turned in my Island beetles according to bell value, and the VERY first Hercules I turned in took the cake at 127 points. Nothing else even broke 100 - not even the Golden Stag 
140 points from a beetle I got last night from the island. Accidentally gave it first instead of cheaper beetles so no furniture
You should have gotten a piece for beating 80pt???

I won with a Horned Hercules at 134 points!
I've seen that video. They do it the luck-based way which is why they failed so many times. Letting them walk away gives you a high chance of them despawning or going into water. They're able to despawn within seconds if you're unlucky, and can do so right in front of you.
More on topic: I got 4 pieces of the bug set today, with my highest being 136 point Golden Stag.

I won 1st with my precious birdwing butterfly, with a "stunning" 108 points.
I don't think so. My high score was 96, and he didn't give me anything when I gave him another beetle worth 92.
I turned in the smallest bugs first and already went through my stash of bugs the highest I got was 121 points and only got a butterfly wallpaper and honeybee chest...no way I am winning this or getting any more furniture...everything I gave him he said was lacking...even my biggest elephant beetle...the one bug he liked was my smallest goliath beetle...seriously?!

I stashed a bunch of bugs aside days ago and I put them in my closet according to size...apparently that doesn't matter to the crazy old bean!
I have no idea how I can top my points now with the standard bugs in town...oh well. Will have to wait for the next one...I only want a few pieces of the furniture, and those will probably be the last ones he would give me LOL

it seems you have to not only be first but have more points than your current highest...I thought it just went by size...I started with fleas and mosquitos and worked my way up...but it doesn't work that way apparently...will know better for next time.
