To me it’s Tang-gee, as in, the letter G is pronounced like a letter G and not like a letter J.

Thanks for participating in the poll, everyone! :) I've always said "tang-ee", but either one is fine with me. For anyone wondering why I even broached a second option (tan-gee) -

1. I've seen both ways bought up before, but not on Bell Tree

2. Both AC wikis mention tangerines (though support tang-ee pronunciation)

3. I'm just a curious person by nature

The name "Tangy" comes from her appearance, as a tangerine, and the sharp taste of citrus fruit. Her Japanese name is a contraction of "100 Percent" and refers to juice concentrate.

Her name is derived from "Tangerine," a citrus fruit similar to oranges and clementines, as well as the adjective used to describe those fruits. Her Japanese catch phrase, "mikan," means Tangerine.

ive always read it as tan-gee because i knew a woman named that it didnt even cross my mind it could be tang-y

It’s Tang-ee because her head is an orange...hence the word tang. People don’t actually say it that way?

Gahhhh if it's Tan-gee my brain cells won't be able to take that!!

Probably because english isn't my first language, i always pronounce Tangy's name with Tan-gee. Now i know exactly how to pronounce her name

I think most everyone who picked the second options hasn't heard of the term "tangy" when referencing citrus items before.

Tangy is an English colloquialism derived from the word "tang", meaning a strong taste or flavor. Currently it isn't helped by the fact that Google image searching the term is full of Animal Crossing's Tangy.

I've always pronounced it as tang-ee, since that's just the way that's felt right to me.

"Tangy" has been in use since 1875, so I'd hardly call it a colloquialism.

(Tangent: It's also derived from the "tang" of a sword or knife (and related to tongue). Tangerine is derived from Tangiers, so it's a coincidence the words look similar and that tangerines have a tangy flavor.)

guess ill sit on this for a few more hours before I eventually give up and realize reality is an illusion

I often viewed tangy as an informal word, or at least one often used in advertising. Which is why I called it a colloquialism. You are right it also means the base of a blade or tongue (the latter never used anymore).

Tang-ee, like the flavour and actual word. This reminds me of back in acnl when there were polls on how to pronounce merengue haha
