Switch trouble

Just recently my Switch stopped connecting to my TV or charging via the dock. I though the dock was broken so i got a new (well refurbished) dock off ebay but still nothing. I just don't know what to do. Will i have to buy a complete new switch?

You can try to do a hard reset. Hold the power button on top of the switch for ~12 seconds. The normal power options will pop up a few seconds in, but ignore them until it turns completely off on its own just from holding the power button. Then wait a few seconds before pushing the button to turn it on again. Then try popping it into the plugged-in dock to see if that fixes the issue.

If that doesn't fix it, you could try calling Nintendo and arranging for a repair although I don't know the cost/benefit comparison of a repair vs buying a new Switch and transferring everything over yourself.

I have tried the hard reset, but no luck. Probably be easier to buy a new switch, i think. I have had this one for a few years and no issues until now.

You could also try a different power cable. I'm definitely not ruling out that your charging port/battery was damaged or broken somehow because that's a definite possibility, but the cable is designed to be the first line of defense in the event of a power surge. I had a Wii that wouldn't even give me a red/orange standby light when plugged in until I switched cables and it went back to working like new. If you know anyone else with a Switch who would let you test yours on their dock or cable, that would be the next step if you don't want to contact Nintendo imo.

I would say it's just a bad HDMI or something but if you're saying it's not charging that's a bit concerning. It sounds like it could definitely be an internal issue. I watch a YouTuber who has repaired a lot of these and sadly it's not something that can be fixed easily. Lots of soldering involved and testing to see what it could be. Couple of questions for you though. Were you using any sort of other charger to charge it like a phone charger and also is there possible water damage that could have occurred from something spilling on it? It actually could also just be the battery that might need replaced if it was charging through different means.

Does it charge just fine undocked? It could be the power cord.
