I can see this title coming in a handheld system, since creating levels could take a long while. Nintendo seems to have a tendency to release their most interesting games on Wii U in an attempt to make the console relevant in the gaming market, and then release it to 3DS or whatever portable system they have in their minds later on. That was the case for Ultimate NES Remix, Dr. Mario: Miracle Cure (was Dr. Luigi on Wii U) and Hyrule Warriors Legends.
I've heard that if the Super Mario Maker sold well on Wii U, then the team will likely consider releasing a handheld version. And the sales thus far seems to indicate that's really the case. Which handheld would the game be released is another matter.
The fact that the Wii U version's enemies run at 30FPS because of the sheer amount of enemies it can hold, it either would be a much downgraded version or they shouldn't release it. I'd rather they not make a handheld version at all tbh.
Exactly!! I agree. They could slim it down a bit if the one on the Wii U can't run on the 3DS. It would be super fun and you could share your levels locally with other systems
