Stu keeps plotting on my QR codes!

So you know how with the Welcome Amiibo update, villagers can no longer plot on QR codes? I decided to take advantage of that and cover my town in QR codes in a way that left no space large enough for a villager house except for the space I chose. I left a space open for Stu like this:

But since I was paranoid, I loaded up a plot resetting character to make sure he got into that spot. But he kept on plotting on the spots I covered up.

Which made me wonder: what if the spot I want him to go in is too close to the river? That would mean that there are no spots for him to plot in town. Wouldn't it make sense for the game to disregard the QR code rule if that is the case?

So my question is: Is where I want Stu to go too close to the river, and is that why my game keeps doing this?

I've had them ignore patterns and plot where they like.

This is with me having left several previously lived on 3x3 spots.

Plot reset.
That's the only 100% safe way to get your villager(s) where you want them. ^_^

But I've already done the QR thing with a few villagers and it worked fine for me. Did you leave a spot in front of the door of the plots?

Anyway, I think I was right about the reason why he plotted on QR codes: because he had no open space to put his house in town. He never went into his designated spot after hours of plot resetting, so it's probably too close to the river. Both the river and the house would need one space around them where no trees/bushes/PWPs/houses would be able to go right? I just didn't think about that when I planned his house location.

Good news though: I found a decent spot for his house!

I left several 3x3 plus door space spots that had previously been lived on.

It doesn't work, not for me, and I'm doing everything right.
It just isn't 100% that villagers won't plot on patterns.
As you've said, it worked for you, but for me, and many others, it hasn't worked.

Plot restting is the only 100% safe way.

I thought my villagers would never plot reset where I wanted them because I was doing it for hours without results (on different occasions) And then finally one day I powered up the game and they plotted in the place I wanted them right away. Didn't even put up a fight.

I don't get it myself. It's mostly random and you either get lucky or you waste a lot of time. However, I think the one place you want to plot might be too close to the pond. I could be wrong though.

yep, your place is too close to the pond. i've had the same problem before- there needs to be one spot of extra space around the perimiter of the house, and then there needs to be space where something else (a tree, bush, small PWP) can go, and since in the bottom left corner of your plotted place has no extra space because of the river, it's too close.
at least, i think that's how it is. i could be wrong lol

You guys must have seriously bad luck if your villagers keep moving on QR Codes. I've had no issues so far without plot resetting so i'm totally coolio with my town :3 (Maybe except one time, but only because I forgot to cover that spot up)

yeah, that plot is too close to the pond. there needs to be one square of blocks around the house and another around the pond, so it would need to be 2 spaces away.
