Struggling to let villagers go

i’m the same way! i don’t move out villagers too often but i think that also adds to why i get so attached. even if it’s a villager that i never planned on keeping, having them move out is still the end of something, which is sort of sad to me ;u; - but the least i can do is to try and find them a new home; knowing that they’re not going to the void makes me feel a bit better c’:

Honestly, from the first day I played, I decided that the only villager I would keep forever is my all time favorite, Fang. But I haven't gotten him yet, and I'm honestly not horribly upset by it. I'm also letting everybody go when they mention leaving. The only time I told somebody no was when Lobo asked, and it was only because he had just moved onto the island. Like he moved on, somebody else left, and then the next time somebody had to leave he was the one to ask and I was like "okay no, I want you around a little longer please." Other than that, I've let everyone go as they've asked. My banner has my villagers in order based on when they came on the island. Coach is one of my originals, and he has never mentioned wanting to leave. Katt was my other original, and she left back in July I believe. If I had my way, Canberra would be the next to go. Personally, I would be okay with having Coach, Merry, and Lobo stick around for a long, long time. But, again, I won't tell them no when they eventually ask to leave.

Meeee with Bluebear. She isn't one of my dreamies, she just showed up in my campsite one day and she was cute so I took her. I find that having two peppy villagers takes away from how fun and quirky they are because it gets redundant. But when she asked to leave, I just couldn't do it. Maybe next time.

Yup. I have Dom and although he’s not a top favorite, I still am reluctant to let him leave even though he is just a temporary resident; part of it is because he has no amiibo card but a good portion of the reason is because he is pretty cute.

Lily was harder to depart with since she became a favorite; the only thing that made it easier was that she had a flea and a gift and the starter house. I do have her amiibo card, but there are three others I wanted to have as permanent residents more.

It's always hard to say goodbye to your friends whom care for.

I guess this sentiment applies to the villagers in this game. At the end of day, it's you who will decide if it's the right time for a villager to move out. One advice that I can give is to keep their Amiibo so that you can invite them back again into your island whenever you feel like it. :)

I do too but the only way to let them go is to have their photo in my home. I cant let go of few of them ever though. My never let go is Audie , Fang and Judy they all my favorites.

Of my current villagers, only Marina is definitely a permanent resident, but I get emotionally invested so quickly and really struggle to let villagers move out even if I've had them a while. I want movement and to explore islands and find new villagers to be friends with but it makes me so sad to see any of these sweeties go ;-; Anyone else have this issue?

I have several retail copies (the cartridges) of “New Leaf.”

With “New Horizons,” it is tied in with the game console.

This one island-per-console is really just a way of Nintendo wanting to generate more money out of customers. (That you have to buy an additional game console, along with another copy of the game itself, if you want more islands and more islanders at a given time.) We Nintendo Switch game-players can have more than one of other game (like “Super Mario Odyssey,” from 2017, had three). I definitely do not like this.

On my island, Óhana, I have three that I want to keep year-round: Molly, Marshal, and Stitches. (That is the order of their seniority.) I now have three who are among the eight new “New Horizons” islanders: Dom, Audie, and Cyd. (That is the order of their seniority.) I have four who I am ready to part with: Teddy, Octavian, Plucky, and Cookie. I feel bad about Teddy. He is my starting Jock. I have had him six months in real time. But, unfortunately, his generic house is atrocious—and with the “New Horizons” team of game designers not making starters have upgradable houses within, say, 30 or 60 (I will even go to 90) days makes it pointless to hang onto any of them. (That is—if the interiors are important to one. I just think it is disrespectful to the individual islanders, who are one’s starters, to be saddled with a terrible interior without being rewarded with an upgrade. And by “upgrade,” I mean at least the house they have under normal circumstances.) I feel loyalty to Teddy. He deserves better than a lousy generic house. I don’t want him to continue to be stuck. So, I am reluctantly going to part with him. With Cookie, I have in mind replacing her with another dog, Goldie. For Plucky, this Uchi is underrated and more ideal in warm weather. (Then again, so is Audie.) But since Fall has arrived, I am thinking of a different Uchi. I want to bring in either Deirdre or get the new “New Horizons” islander Reneigh. I will not feel good parting with Octavian. He is absolutely great. I am wondering if I may end up keeping him. I will go island-hunting while continuing to work the campsite method. If any of the remaining new “New Horizons” islanders arrive—be they Judy or Sherb or Megan or Raymond—then I am prepared to say good-bye. (Right now, I lack a Snooty. So, the most likely to show up at the campsite is Judy.) Ultimately, I am striking a balance: Keep those near and dear to my heart—Stitches, Molly, and Marshal (in the order I most want)—and venture out to welcome a mix of season-appropriate islanders with those who are new to the game.

I understand your dilemma. But, it is important to keep in mind that this game is pretty costly. (The money.) And you end up making a choice that is not easy. I suggest being really honest with yourself. You mentioned Marina. So, there you go with being able to determine a particular islander you want to make sure to keep. (For me, it is the trio of Stitches, Molly, and Marshal.) When you determine who you have to hang onto—like making that islander permanent (year-round)—you can open yourself up to others. And there is another positive: Unlike “New Leaf,” in which you had to cycle out ex-residents with other replacements before being able to welcome them back—well, in “New Horizons,” you don’t have to go through a cycle. There are 391 islanders in “New Horizons.” Many of them are really likable.

i don't have this problem, i have three villagers atm that i'm keeping permanently on my island and if they ask to move i say no, but for most of the others if they ask to move i have no problem letting them go! most of the time when i take these villagers on it's from an NMT island and it isn't someone i've necessarily been searching for, so when i take them on i kinda have the expectation they'll be replaced at some point unless i really click with them.

 Whitney asked to leave yesterday. I turned her down. I'm so close to getting her photo I didn't want to waste my efforts. Truth be told, I like her alot and I don't want her to leave anyway.

I get said when they leave even the islanders that I don't love I am still sad to see them go :( Can we ever find them again on islands or scan them in ?

I did in New Leaf but I find island hopping and collecting villager photos so addictive and fun, so I don't think I'll ever settle on a certain 10 villagers.

Plus, there is no risk with getting trees and flowers destroyed now and also I can always adopt them again!

I just told Fauna she can leave and I am having some mixed feelings. Not sure if I am doing the right thing...I don’t want to go into the whole history, but I’ve come to really love her and I still enjoy talking to her and having her around generally, even if she is not a favorite exactly. But at the same time, I always intended to let her move on eventually. I’ve gotten her picture twice now, and currently have 3 normals (though one of the others i am planning to give to a friend once I have her picture)

Some advice/ encouragement would be appreciated. This is such a silly thing, but i am worried about whether I am making the right choice.

I don’t think it’s silly ^.^. Many of us have had to make this choice and felt the same after letting a villager go; I know I have. Looking at the picture of Rudy and Lily singing together on Lily’s first day on my island made me wonder if I made the right choice. I have concluded that I have since Ankha, Marshal and Lolly are bigger favorites of mine, and i want to meet other villagers before inviting them. Of course the decision of letting ones go whom I already know that I’m interested in or that I don’t have amiibos for will be hard ><.

If you want to try out more villagers or if there are villagers you know for sure you like more than her, then trust your decision - though nothing wrong with being sad you had to make this decision. You can always find her again or ask someone with the amiibo card to scan her have you invite her to your town; it won’t be the same Fauna though.

I hope this helps.

it does help! Thank you. I think there are still a lot of villagers out there I want to meet, and I am still trying to figure out who my favorite villagers even are. And it is true that although it would not be the same fauna...there is always the amiibo route / some nice person on here if I end up really regretting letting her go.

thanks, I’m going to ruminate on this a bit more of course, because that is my nature (and I know I have the secondary character who can ‘undo’ my agreement if need be, which in a way makes me second guess more) but it’s nice to have people who really understand :giggle: and sympathize.

thank you so much. It’s also been a hard week for me, so I am feeling especially sensitive with stuff like this...

No problem! I hope the rest of the week gets easier and better for you :)

The Villagers on my Island that are Permanent are Axel, Merengue, Tia, Tangy, Ellie, and Sprinkle, i have their Amiibo card's except from Axel, Axel was one of my Starting Villagers.

My other Villager's are Bella, Katt, Flurry, and Chadder. It's hard to part with them though, i would like to have Cyd on my island though.

I definitely have this issue even if I own the Amiibo card for the villager. ; u ; I'm somewhat envious of my partner for only having a few permanent residents on his island; the rest he allows to leave after he receives their framed picture.

I’m ok with letting them go. I think the more you do it , the easier it gets. I think towards the beginning, I felt bad letting go, but now, usually when they ask to leave I let them. Only about 2-3 villagers right now are permanent to stay.

Some were a lot harder than others like Marina, Marshal, and Raymond but no matter how hard you think it is every time you let someone leave, you eventually move on.

If you’re struggling to let villagers go, one thing that’s made it easier is knowing you can encounter them again if you ever change your mind. I’ve already seen Marina like 4 times since I let her leave.

It's getting harder and harder to let villagers go for me as well! As time goes on I keep getting more villagers that I really like, some of them who will probably be permanent. I also have a few from certain personalities that I could let go, but at the same time I would have no idea who else I'd like from that personality...

The villager that I'm currently debating on is Roald, who is walking around the island with a thought bubble right this moment. I have two jocks (Lyman and Roald) and I don't mind having two, but at the same time, new villagers are nice and I wouldn't miss a personality if I let him move! I also have Aurora though, and the two penguins make such a sweet pair when they are running around together... 🤔

I don't know. Maybe I'll have a good long think about it and make a decision next time he wants to move.
