Streetpass badge across multiple characters?

How does the Streetpass badge work when you have multiple characters?

Does the first one who plays after Streetpassing get counted towards it or does a Streetpass count for all of them?

Does each character need to go to the Happy Home Showcase?

I'm very confused.

I've asked that question here in the past and there was no consensus answer. Some people said the credits go to whoever plays first after the streetpass; others said the mayor always gets credited; still others said that whichever character has their house selected as the town's HHA model is the one who gets credited.

I haven't been able to figure the answer out myself. None of my characters has gotten a streetpass badge yet, so i cant confirm which of the above theories is accurate. And, several excellent ACNL guides don't address this particular question. If you find a confirmed answer, please let us know.

Ugh no matter what I will probably never get the streetpass badges, but I am curious to this answer too... I would hope it counts for all characters but I'm not sure :/

Well, my mayor has silver and the other character in town has nothing, so it definitely doesn't count for all...
Mayor's house is the one on show, I would suspect that it counts for whoever's house is the HHA display house.
