I just store everything in my storage!
If it gets full, I'll go through it and take out items and sell them at Nook's.
I like just storing everything in my storage because if I want to redecorate/change outfit, I might already have that item. If someone is looking for an item, rather than order it from my catalogue, I'll have it already. Need a gift for a villager? Definitely can find something!
I completely understand that doesn't work for everyone!

Back in NL days, I was the biggest hoarder. I would go on this forum and buy all the holiday/country specific items to collect all the rare items. I then realized that I never used half of them.
Fast forward to NH and I began hoarding again. Then I remembered my actions in NL and decided to be okay with not getting all the clothing or art and just get what I want and will use. I mainly have clothing in my storage because there's so many cute clothes in this game. As far as furniture goes, it's pretty limited. I'm either using everything or sold what I didn't want. Now I kinda wish I had more items already purchased to choose from instead of ordering five a day, painfully.
Fast forward to NH and I began hoarding again. Then I remembered my actions in NL and decided to be okay with not getting all the clothing or art and just get what I want and will use. I have almost 4300 items on my main now. Lots of them are actually DIY recipes. I hang onto those in case they would be useful for someone else or just to dump them on secondary characters. I really haven’t made use of that though.
I also have a lot of bugs and fish right now because I want to get their models. For a long while I actually had sea creatures stored too hoping that models would be added for them, no go I suppose- I miss the miniature fossil models most but no sea creature models is still so weird to me. I really put effort into catching multiples of some of those and I didn’t even get that much when I sold them :/
Otherwise I always store materials and gyroids, always store unorderable items (unless it’s stuff I can easily craft), I like storing various clothes AND I store certain items that just look cool even if I don’t have a use for them yet… Never sure when they might inspire a new build, all it takes is one item I like to work around.
