Stopping tree growth?

I would like to have trees in all the different stages for a more natural look. Is there a way to stop trees from growing?

They won't grow if there's enough trees around it to stop it growing, however this is kind of finicky to do and I don't know the exact numbers that make it so a tree wouldnt be able to grow

You can! If you plant a non-Coconut Fruit tree next to the tree you want to prevent from growing, it'll stay on the same stage.

You'll want it to be a sapling; you can basically just plant the Fruit right by the tree you want to stunt. If you don't want to see the extra sapling, then you can plant it behind the initial tree.
