Stop Giving BFF Status to Strangers!!

I think part is risk control, so you don`t expose yourself to massive risks, part of it is accepting you are going to get screwed over in the world now and again. In this game and in life in general. For me its not worth sacrificing my faith in humanity. On the other hand you can have almost naive like faith in others while still taking the possible precautions.

And last, when you do get screwed over, try and not let it linger to much, especially when its in a videogame. Ofcourse you can still accept donations, just not beg for them since you hold responsibility as well. I just think all the ranting over it goes a bit far. It sucks when it happens to you, but come on, its a freaking game, get over it.

To be honest I find it difficult to feel sorry for this person.
Trust should be earned not gifted.

The names of the people need to blurred out of the post for us to allow it to stay up. If you can do that then it'll be fine!
Apologies, I went ahead and did that! Im at work so it's a sloppy job so l et me know if I missed any xD

I'm kinda shocked over the fact that the person really allowed that stranger to keep them over an hour trapped there. If something like this would happen to me, I would shut down my Switch within seconds...

my post for removed due to blacklisting (super sorry, I should have known better)

but I just wanted to point out that the "time played together" as displayed on OP's screenshots didn't line up with what the story mentioned.

the posts show them (I think the time played together is based on when someone flys in) flying in about 10-30 minutes apart, which just doesn't check out in my head.

xedit: also I don't consider internet friends strangers, so I usually feel comfortable adding them, but I don't usually make the jump from "they sent me one message on discord" -> instant friendship
yeah the times are so far apart even though it seems like they arrived about at the same time in the story (if the time really shows when they arrived)

the op would've waited more than an hour for everyone just to come
and I wonder what the rest of the people did on the island during that time

NGL. This sounds really fake or OP is just gullible to a T because my thumb is always stationed to the home button when I'm doing online play because of mishaps like this. Waiting for an hour while people sabotaging is LMAO.

Gosh, I’m going to sound so rude, but when they say they have been trapped in the museum for over an hour, the integrity of their tale just decreases. If this person were a child I would be more inclined to believe it.

That's what I've been thinking but I cant dare say that or else I'll be called a victim blamer lol

I mean there's no need to call anyone stupid really.

We don't know if this is real, we don't know the backstory. Maybe the OP didn't have friends to play AC with and thought this could be nice, who knows.
I actually did spend almost an hour once touring one of my (IRL) friend's museum, just chatting and looking at stuff and taking pictures.

Anyway. The point of this is, for the few people that might want to do it: Do not add people you don't know as BF, or do it knowing the risks and being careful. There's some weird/uncool people out there.

Whether this story is real or not doesn't actually make a difference.

This is horrible, really. I feel for that person, but honestly, I've been too liberal with giving people best friend status too come to think of it. I routinely hire people to come over and dig up my overgrowth hybrids and stuff and never really gave it much thought. I guess this is a wake up call for me too.

Thanks for sharing this.

A lot of people are offering them a ton of stuff to make up for what the strangers did.

Part of me wants to believe this is true but another part believes that this can all just be a scam to get attention and donations. They never posted any screenshot proof of any of this stuff happening.
Went through the replies and as soon as I saw people offering to help this is what crossed my mind immediately. This whole story really does seem iffy.

I guess I'm gullible too, lol. My first thought when reading was, "I want to donate to their cause" Oops, you're right, this could be a con, too. Hm.

See I'd believe that but OP says that they were literally trapped in a chair by a visitor for that amount of time... it's just weird.

I don't really see her asking for sympathy. It sounds and looks like (referencing the screenshots) she's trying to warn others of her mistakes and show the people involved so people look out for those in the future in trades.

I like how the post asks no belittling but here we are belittling lol.

Mistakes happen, no matter what age. She's human and clearly puts trust out more easily. This may be their first AC game playing with a community. I see no point in judging or downing her. I have more negative things to say about people that would tear up someones game and leave bad symbols.

There's 4 museum sections all with a minimum of what 3 sections in each. Let's say you spend 10 minutes in each section and the person asks questions, wants to take pics together, etc...that accounts for at least a hour and 20 minutes. Still weird but feasible. I'd be bored but everyone plays the game different.

If it's fake then it's fake and that's on her. But, I find it hard to believe if there's pictures attached and the amount of detail that they'd go to those lengths just to make a fake story. Possible but whatever.

It says the player kept her entertained for a hour. It doesn't say she was kept in the chair for a hour.

So does that mean OP just randomly blocked off the entrance to their museum and the only way to get in was via a chair? Because even if you're best friends you still can't place furniture down on other islands, right?

I think she's referring to the benches/chairs inside the museum. She's saying at one point when one person left triggering a save, she was then stuck on the chair/bench and the person pretending to want to take selfies with her until the other DC'd.

yeah the "date played together" definitely doesn't add up... also, I don't know much about the Switch's friend system because I have no friends but how can OP be looking at these people's profiles without knowing their friend codes?

if you go to "recently played with" it'll be the screen showed and you can add people without their friendcodes. i checked my logs and the timestamps listed are around when they flew in, so that's just my 2 cents

The post implies that they were trapped in the museum the entire time (while I was trapped in the museum they trashed my island). They switch the wording around a lot within the post.

The screenshots and "proof" they posted werent really anything. It was just screenshots of the peoples profiles who trashed their island. They didnt show proof of being trapped in the museum or proof of the terrible symbols that they put on the clothing and into the ground. Sharing screenshots of player profiles doesnt really prove much.
