Stop Giving BFF Status to Strangers!!

This post is circulating and I need to rant about it.

(The host and person who had this issue is 22, so they aren't a child that didn't know any better)

So if you read what happened to the person I just... I don't understand.

Nintendo SPECIFICALLY said not to add people to your BFF list UNLESS you know them personally and unless you trust that they aren't going to mess up your island. Why do COMPLETE strangers want you to add them to your BFF list unless they want to wreak havoc on your town?? What is the benefit of BFF status besides being able to use the axes and shovels?

I also want to know how one of the people managed to trap the host in the museum for an HOUR AND A HALF before they realized something was wrong. If someone is preventing me from moving around in MY OWN TOWN, I'm cutting the internet RIGHT AWAY. I won't wait for an hour and a half and give them the benefit of the doubt. It's shady as heck.

For the love of Nook please don't give people BFF status unless you actually are friends with them and trust that they won't ransack your town. It's sad that this happened to this person but what's more sad are the people getting attacked for saying "well why did she make them bffs they were total strangers".

Sure, those people didn't NEED to be ***holes and ruin the host's island, but this could have been prevented ENTIRELY if the host just didn't make them BFFs. At the VERY least it could have been prevented if the host didn't allow themselves to be trapped in their own museum by a complete stranger for an HOUR AND A HALF!!! That's a long time to just be sitting in the museum waiting to be freed!!!

It's sad this happened but if you do stuff like this you can't expect everyone to sympathize with you. So just don't give BFF to strangers I really hate seeing posts like this bc situations like this can be avoided if you just used common sense.

Yeah, idk... I would've definitely ended the session as soon as I saw they had trapped me (not to mention I would NEVER accept strangers into my bffs list lol)

I think some people just don't think. I would never give anyone BFF status to someone unless I personally knew them. Even if they were the spouse of somebody else that I did know that I haven't met yet. I mean, it is just common sense.

Yeah, I think this is more of a "few crayons missing from the box" situation than a "trusting strangers too much" situation. As soon as I realized I was trapped the home button would have been turned off.

they did a museum tour for 1 1/2 hours and after that they trapped her inside for additional time? or was 1 1/2 hours the total time
and if each player was put at the airport docks did she just go back to the museum to be trapped

A lot of people are offering them a ton of stuff to make up for what the strangers did.

Part of me wants to believe this is true but another part believes that this can all just be a scam to get attention and donations. They never posted any screenshot proof of any of this stuff happening.

Wow.. That fact that she literally did nothing for over an hour and thought been trapped in her own museum wasn't at all shady... I really don't feel any sympathy for them. They shouldn't have made those people BFF's on their friend list.
Having said that, I have got some people on my BFF list that I don't know that well, but they have proven themselves to be trustworthy. But after reading this, I think i'm going to stop adding complete strangers. Yikes.

Yeah that's fine you do you. I just dont get doing it and then making a post asking for sympathy about it and accepting donations... other ppl shouldnt have to pay for your mistake you know what I mean?

The thought just wouldn't pass my mind honestly, I know for a fact there are some really malicious people out there so I wouldn't even add folks from here as a BFF purely out of safety unless I've traded with them before and would make certain payments easier.

I can't really feel that bad for the person at hand though, plenty of ways to avoid these situations as a whole, just feels a lot of people aren't aware that you can just exit the game by the home menu or just putting it in sleep mode for a few seconds to cut the connection and a lot of effort would've been saved.

Feels as if the person is just very naive, which is a bad thing for stuff like Animal Crossing.

That's terrible and it's the main reason why the BFF status are only for people you are 100% familiar with, not strangers.

I've given BFF status to the full TBT staff team. It makes things easier when we play together. The only other people I could see myself giving it to are my two closest friends offline, who also happen to play the game.

but I just wanted to point out that the "time played together" as displayed on OP's screenshots didn't line up with what the story mentioned.

the posts show them (I think the time played together is based on when someone flys in) flying in about 10-30 minutes apart, which just doesn't check out in my head.

xedit: also I don't consider internet friends strangers, so I usually feel comfortable adding them, but I don't usually make the jump from "they sent me one message on discord" -> instant friendship
