(spoilers) why am i hearing stories that their birthday celeb on ac made them tear up?

I have gotten to experience It because my birthday has happened. It way more involved then in past games. I enjoyed it. My guess would be KK plays the Birthday song for you. Instead of the credits popping up its birthday letters. They are from your villagers and supposedly your friends send them in too? So perhaps the letters are very touching to people?xD

Yeah they did upgrade it. Maybe because it’s the same feeling you had as a Kid, when you invited your best friends. For me my Birthdays are not really that special anymore. There is no blowing out the Candles etc. just Presents, Cake and a regular Party. I feel like whenever you get older, it doesn’t feel that special anymore. At least for me. Lol

I think people are being hit extra hard because of the lockdown, they can't celebrate their birthday in real-life with family and friends the same way, so waking up and seeing your favorite villagers surprise you with a cake and candles feels special, especially for the new players who weren't expecting it.

and y’all right, quarantine really be making people lonely. i visit my friends and even family from far away on their islands, and it somehow makes me feel closer to them than talking to them on social media.
i think some people have not all experienced their birthday on previous games too.

Bro, I still have a picture of one of my AC birthday parties from NL on Instagram. I can't wait to see how it looks like in NH.
I just wished the villagers' birthday parties had more to them. In NL they would have two guests besides you, but in NH it's just one. It would be a lot cooler if their birthday parties were held on the main plaza.

Putting discussion of my personal experience of the birthday event under the spoiler tag (because of the mild spoilers? and emotions?) but yeah. It's pretty good and crying is a very reasonable response to it right now.
The party and the party dialog were better than I expected. The cupcake activity was good too. It was a fun way to get birthday wishes and presents from the animals who didn't actually come to the party.
The real deal was that a friend who had read about the birthday letter thing on twitter came to my island to hang out and write one secretly. I saw it at the very end of the K.K. Birthday performance and I knew absolutely nothing about it my friend's letter showed up on screen.,
It was really sincere and definitely written by the real person and it caught me off guard after being thanked for being a good customer by Mable in the previous on-screen letter, y'know?
It was a very weird mishmash of reality and game and in these strange times, it kind of wrecked me for a while. I miss people, I miss my friends. But I'm grateful that someone put the effort in to sneak around and write that for me as a birthday surprise and I'm grateful for all my little animal friends for being such reliable escapism.
I completely believe people are crying over their experiences with the birthday event.
It was my favorite AC birthday overall, of all the games.
But definitely the world circumstances are doing a lot to make it hit people harder than it would have otherwise.
I suspect for people who pick up new horizons in a year or two as new players will just think it's kinda cute.

I celebrated my birthday yesterday and I was super close to crying. The letters they show during KK Birthday just made me so emotional for some reason! And it made my birthday during this quarantine so much better

It’s funny because my birthday was on Friday and I had a garbage day and didn’t even bother booting up the game. (Haven’t done so in a while...)
Personally, I didn't find it that great,
my b-day way on the 19th and the aspect of it that was best for me (in-game) was that Cranston was in attendance at the party lol. I honestly wouldn't even have participated if he wasn't there.
But it was just kinda cute (and pretty similar to NL from what I remember.)

I celebrated it twice (I have two islands) as my birthday was on the 28th of March! Fun times! Can I just say, you have to hit a certain thing!
Yeah.. people who had/have their bday in March/April/May (possibly later) may not have the best bday ever! But if people find Solace

Yes. I had one - it wasn't a letter sent through the mail, it was a letter that they had written by
speaking to k.k. slider earlier in the day. It has a special stationary and was delivered to my mailbox after the birthday concert.
I don't exactly know how to do it for someone without a Saturday birthday but I'm sure there's a way.

I was about to write what Feather Orb said. I had people visit my island on the Saturday (my birthday was on the day after) and
The party definitely made me feel a bit happier given I saw nobody.
people were able to do letters then which I didn't know about and was a nice surprise. Apart from the fact my brother just wrote something stupid haha.

having Sherb drag me over in secret and seeing Merengue and Marshal participating touched my soft lil heart
BUT THE BIRTHDAY SONG and all the letters from Marshal, Beau, Sable and Blathers made me cry a little - it was lovely and touching!

I LOVED my birthday celebration! My birthday was on march 26th right when the game came out and I was so excited when bangle showed up and took me to an entire costume party for me. Hitting the pinata for the cupcakes (the only way to get other villagers to give you a bday gift) was so much fun and I loved getting my birthday sign as a gift! I also adored the cake from the in game mom (has a little puppy on it) and the kk song made me want to cry.
I was going through a rough patch when this game came out because I am part of the class of 2020 getting my BSN after 5 years of hard work in nursing school. I didnt think I'd be able to make it going to online classes and felt I would be a horrible nurse because I could not focus at home.
Seeing the little letters saying how much my villagers loved me- despite not knowing me for long- made me cry and feel inspired to keep going. (Also yes I TTed back to see this
)

I loved my birthday celebration so much 
Mine was on March 30th, so very early on, didn't even have Ables yet, nor K.K. lol. Having Skye greet me as soon as I walked out and drag me to her house where Reneigh and Sprinkle were waiting was just so sweet I loved busting that piñata and getting the cupcakes, and getting to share them with everyone... The birthday sign and the cake your IG mom makes you (which is actually customizable!!) are so cute. It was definitely a brighter day for me than it would've been without Animal Crossing, having to spend your birthday on lockdown is the worst feeling ever. I am curious to celebrate my birthday again next year now that I have more features unlocked!
