So, rumors have been floating around lately about a potential PS4. The latest rumor is that most of the online features for the PS4 will require a Premium Account. Another one is that the console will cost around $530. That price point would have been fine back in 2006, but I don't think anyone is really economically ready for that anymore.

EDIT: IGN put together a few of the rumors that came out today and yesterday. You can read about them here.

I personally wouldn't buy a PS4 until I heard some more info about it, until then, the only 8th generation video game consoles I'm buying is a Wii U and my 3DS

If it's anything over $350 it'll probably flop. But it looks promising enough for the long run.

Companies should be taking after Nintendo's failure on price points (esp. with the 3DS two or so years ago). If the price is too high in this economy and in this market, people won't flock to it like they did the Wii or PS3 or XBOX360.

Dude, sorry I don't mean to be rude but these are only rumors as you stated. There is no decent enough info for any of the things you are saying. Also that picture is fake as can be. Sorry but the PS4 is likely going to be about $400 so go ahead and get all upset and judgemental saying it'll fail. The difference between PS4 and 3DS is that Sony is smart about producing systems. (sorry nintendo). Also the "premium" idea makes no sense. Why would Sony do that when they have been having so much sucess without it. While the "no pre-owned without a pass" does make sense marketing wise. Also something else, Nintendo lacked titles with their 3DS, Sony is going to wait for a decent group of devs to jump on board before releasing it.

Now don't get me wrong, I love Nintendo, the Wii U, and my 3DS. They just made some bad decisions early on with the 3DS.

I don't know where you get that I'm taking any of these as fact... I've stated that they're rumors and I haven't said anything to make anyone think that I believe the contrary. I was just commenting on the rumors. And the 3DS was overpriced, I'm sorry, but it was and the fact that they realized this and lowered the price showed that they knew it too. No need to jump down my throat about it. And the picture may be fake, but there is no actual controller model out yet, so I';m just using it as a heading for now. I don't know why you're tearing me apart for rumors others have talked about. I'm just showing the speculation and creating a thread for others to speculate and talk about it.

People are such hypocrites about the price. (not necessarily in this thread/forum but in general) They complain if the systems aren't powerful enough (Wii U) but if they are powerful and are expensive then they complain too. There's only so much power you can pack in for $300-$500.

I haven't bought a Sony system since the PSP back in '06, I don't even have a PS3. Not really much of fan of Sony's newer systems, though I did grow up playing the PS1 and PS2.

Didn't the PS3 start at $500 or $600 in the US? I do not believe it was very fine back then either....

Getting a specific price down is a balancing act. If I remember correctly the Wii sold really well because it was cheaper, Nintendo actually did make profit off each sale, but the power was seen as lacking compared to the other 2 systems. Microsoft was taking a loss on each sale, but it was offset by software sales, and in the end looks like it paid off. The PS3 they made it pretty powerful, though still wanted a profit so started higher. The fact that blu-ray destroyed HDDVD is really a large factor in why it ended up doing pretty well in my mind. I partially got one because it was actually cheap compared to blu-ray players at one point.

I think they understand they won't get as huge of an adoption rate with a higher price tag at first but they will get some people to pay it. Then they lower the price.

That said I am not a businessman. In fact I would probably suck as one. All I have just stated is opinion and much is not based on reality(though the PS3 did start at a high price and short on demand, and HDDVD is dead)

PS4 looks pretty good so far, Except for the glaring fact that it's going to have a pretty high price..

Price has already been announced. It's 100 less than the Xbox1, and you can change the hard drive in it (just like the ps3) so there's really no downfall for getting the lowest storage space.
