I was watching the 25th anniversary stream and they announced the latest Sonic game which is surprisingly pixel styled much like the classic games. I thought this was actually a good move going back to what made Sonic great. I was worried about being disappointed with a new 3D game, but this was a good turn of events. What do you think?

I'm kind of excited to play this, I'm expecting it to be a download only kind of title though. Doesn't seem like a full $40/$60 game.

Really excited to learn more about Sonic 2017 since it appears to be Generations 2.

I saw this live at the event, and I got to actually play the game as well. It plays exactly like the classic games we all love.

While I say, I do like this. They need to make Sonic Adventure 3. The good 3D platformer and Chaos need to come back.

They did a Q&A and the head of Sonic Team was asked this question. He said that they have no plans for a Sonic Adventure 3, but he would like to make it someday. Personally, I don't want a Sonic Adventure 3 with the current cast of voices and gameplay. I liked the old voice acting better and haven't been a fan of the Sonic Unleashed gameplay they've adopted. Also, as Tom mentioned a second Sonic game was announced at the end for modern Sonic fans. It very much looks like a second Sonic Generations game. The trailer was so short though so we don't know for sure.

I'm guessing it retells the events of the first three Sonic games with a bit of a twist. Complete with no voice acting!

Should put that as one of the 'box quotes'.

One of the worst things SEGA did with Sonic was allow him to verbally communicate via cringey 90's 'tude'.

I think that's really odd they're not gonna release it for the 3DS, I think it'd work great on a handheld.

Yeah! You know, like the DS version of Sonic Colo(u)rs. And the 3DS versions of Sonic Lost World and Generations. You know, the good versions! That was sarcastic in case you didn't catch that.

My initial thoughts from the stream still stand today, i am not excited for Sonic Mania.

I am HYPED for the SONIC 2017 NX 3D GENERATIONS THOUGH. It looks like it has a dark enough story for me to enjoy, but I can tell it's either going to fall into a Sonic Adventure DX category OR Sonic '06 category. I hope they put lots of effort into this game, it really is sonic's last shot.

I will probably buy sonic mania anyway though because you can play as Tails and Knuckles too which is fresh till death and I am sure the music will be amazing.

Are you seriously comparing Sonic Mania, a 2D platformer, to Lost World and Colours, which were crappy 3D platformers? Of course the latter two wouldn't be as good on the 3DS compared to the home console versions. Also, crappy games are gonna be crappy no matter the system.

And thank you for the clarification, bro. Your sarcasm was so complex, so intelligent and subtle that I almost didn't catch it.

looks like sega is trying to bring back the #nostalgia for all the 90s kids like they're some hip indie game devs

regardless it looks really fun and they're taking a step in a step in the right direction. Most 3D Sonic games are garbage.

Best thing about it is that it's not even developed by Sonic Team.

Project Sonic 2017 looks incredible. The environment looks like it's inspired by the Archie Sonic comic books, which is awesome because I'm a huge fan of that series. Looks like it's gonna be quite a dark story, which is also awesome because I've always thought Eggman would be a terrifying villain if the humour was lowered just a little.

As for Sonic Mania, really cool trailer. I loved the start, when they showed off some of the earlier games (including Sonic R and Sonic Adventure 1/2, some favourites of mine). It looks like it's going to be a mixture of 2D and 3D graphics, which is awesome. When SEGA first announced they'd start work on games that were closer to Sonic's origins, I was expecting something on a similar level to Sonic Adventure, and what I think they've done is gone in two directions. 2017 will give us the 3D classics we love and Sonic Mania will give us the enjoyment we got out the very first games. Overall, I'm really happy!

Finally, sonic games to get excited for again.

I'm more excited for Mania than I am for 2017 more so.

I have no idea what they're going with 2017 but my expectation are high for the most part.

Mania, is like Sonic 3&K plus CD.
And that's amazing.

Wow, SEGA seems to have remembered what Sonic is! If it came out for 3DS, I would definitely buy it! It looks really good already!
Yaaaay! Sonic isn't dead!

Not sure why people are asking for the 3DS in the first place. Frankly, I'm glad it's NOT on the 3ds, or else, it would hold the game's performance back. I was actually at the Sonic 25th Anniversary event, and I got to play the game on an LG 1080p Monitor on a Origin PC. Let me tell you know that the game looks stunting at 1080p, and played better an the original games thanks to the 60FPS and blast processing (no joke, it has better physics than the original because it was programmed natively on C++ rather than being emulated). Not to mention, the sprite quality and level of detail in the game were absolutely generous. On Green Hill Zone, the game begins from the original level with the original level graphics, and as you progress, the game just gets graphical better. YOU CAN NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE. This is what everyone at the event was talking about.

Oh my gosh, the footage you see on Youtube doesn't justify just how beautiful, and how well it plays. It's a must play game on a console like just how the Sonic 1, 2, 3 were played on a Genesis console.

I'm looking forward to it on PC, but I'll probably pick it up on PS4, too.
