I started up my first town, and Whitney was in boxes. Like wth. I'm pretty sure I played it less than 5 days ago. This is really frustrating bc this JUST happened to me with Bella. Yet Curlos and Chester are still hanging around even though I want them to leave. It's not fair. Why does this game do this, and why can't you talk villagers out of boxes. They shouldn't be allowed to move at all UNTIL they talk to your mayor. You shouldn't just turn your game on one day, and your villager is gone without you ever having known about it.

I managed to get her into my other town, but I have a question. If she goes in boxes there, can I convince her to move back into my first town? even without the 16-villager cycle? or would she say no?

I guess it's not the end of the world to have her in my other town... it's just that she and my mayor were like bffs :/

I am so sorry you lost her. No, I think you have to have done the 16 villager cycle.

Yeah this sucks.. uuugh why did they remove it here and had it in city folk. wth like wii gets everything

Well it's kinda ironic because the game was thought to get new villagers and new villagers... it's us the ones that wanna go against that and keep our favorites lol.. :') I hope you get her back!

Well unfortunately you brought that upon yourself by not playing at least every 2 days. 5 days ago she could've probably been thinking to move and not yet pinged and during your break of not playing, she boxed up :( and nope, if you get her in boxes, she will just talk to you but not ask to move back in

I'm usually so careful too. I run around to make sure nobody pings, and there are no rumors of someone moving, before turning my game off.

Whitney was one of my originals. D; I don't think I can do the 16-villager cycle for her to come back. I don't know if I'll go through enough villagers for that. I guess she can stay in my other town. ugh.

I don't mind that villagers want to move, but the system needs to be better. Like I said, they shouldn't move without talking to the mayor (or main character) first. It's not right that you just turn your game on and a villager is gone.

Eh but the game is supposed to kinda simulate real life and you can't really tell someone to not move without your permission IRL lol

It sucks but that's kinda how it goes...I don't know if I'd go longer than playing every three days at the least...even then you risk missing the "ping" day and villagers not telling you. You just kinda have to check in more often. :/

You can't. You have to do the 16 cycle regardless before she'll agree even if she's the same whitney or one from another town.

Animal crossing is a game that may trigger rage sometimes. No wait scratch that, most times.

You mean all the time.

I'm doing my best to be best friends with villagers I don't want because, as my brother said, Nintendo doesn't want us to have friends.

I'm really sorry that happened to you. Why they removed talking villagers out of it when they're in boxes is ****ing beyond me, because it was in both WW AND CF if I'm correct. I think Nintendo just wanted MORE of a timesink and in turn a paranoia/panic-inducing pain in the ass.

Yes, you would have to cycle 16 to get her back into your main even if she was in boxes on your alt. Again. Nintendo is a bag of ****s.

With 4 copies I have like a freaking breakdown every day just trying to make sure nobody's moving, I try to be so careful. Yeah, I brought it upon myself, but if Nintendo actually cared they'd do something about it.

Animal Crossing has always contained some kind of punitive element toward not playing regularly. It's one of the things I dislike most about the game. They have loosened on a few key points, and I hope this is next.

Everything related to villager move-outs and move-ins is a serious blemish on an otherwise great game.

It feels like a punishment for not checking in every day. I definitely will be more careful and check in with each town every day. But what happens when I get my town "perfect" or the next animal crossing comes out. There is going to come a time when I don't play animal crossing anymore. I'm gonna check back in 2 years and all that hard work could be down the drain. :P It just doesn't seem right.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll keep Whitney in my second town. I don't want to risk losing anyone else.

@hunahan - I agree. I really hope they change this in the future. Like I said, at least make it so villagers don't move out unless they speak to one of the characters first. And also, that if you're the mayor, you can decide where the house is built :P

Don't put her into boxes in your 2nd town until the 16 villager cycle has passed. Otherwise, she won't ask to move in. She'll leave your 2nd town and you'll lose her.

The same thing happened to me with Chief. He's safely in my second town... but I'm still about 12 villagers away from having him be able to even move back.

And it makes having to play every day a chore (note; that's how *I* feel). Yes, I understand the idea and all that behind it, but games are meant to be fun and relaxing, and stressing over a villager who might move isn't my definition of fun. :( And yes, I can check in every day for a few minutes, but when I'm playing another game (or just not playing anything, for whatever reason) I'm not thinking about AC:NL. So, yay, for being able to TT, I guess. ;)

IRL in a neighborhood, you can't build your house just anywhere. Nintendo needs to learn that.

I feel bad for basically everyone that posted here because you actually care about your villagers... unlike me. If someone moved out, I would just shrug it off unless they were popular, in which I would be frustrated because I didn't make bells out of them.
