So you weren't happy with the update..is there at least something you appreciate from it?

I'm happy with the update. It just feels a bit empty, since we had all this stuff in New Leaf already. And I'm sure we will eventually get more fruit variety, and the gems from the rocks. And I will be happy with that as well. But it will also feel pretty hollow. Because...why wasn't it just in to begin with?

I'm satisfied of what was showcased in the wave 1 summer update. While I won't go out of my way to craft every single furniture of the mermaid set, it's nice to know that they have returned. Let's also keep in mind that we haven't gotten the update yet, so we'll see how all of this will work out by then and see if there are any other small surprises!
Most of us "complainers" are happy that diving is returning because it's better late than never, but we're not about to heap praise on Nintendo for bringing something back that was expected to be in the game in the first place. Saying we should be "grateful" is like expecting your teacher to congratulate you for turning in your homework late. The best praise Nintendo will get from me is I'll stop complaining about diving being missing now that it's back, but I'll still keep complaining about missing features until those come back and I won't start praising Nintendo until an update contains something that I was truly not expecting to be included in the game.

People are indeed entitled to their opinions! That is fine if you don't like it! Not everybody will aha That doesn't make anybody's opinion better than the other
What got me personally confused were those who were complaining about the whole "Northern" and "Southern" Hemisphere thing. Where they somehow found it "unfair" of an update based upon a mere title, yet get the same things in the update as those in the Northern Hemisphere. That was uhh...odd to me lol

I’m very happy with it. Of course I do miss Brewster, but I can see them bringing him in as more of a fall/winter thing (following the NH calendar) because cafés are cozy, warm spaces.
I’m excited to swim and collect the sea creatures, plus fingers crossed that pirate gulliver will be bringing more pirate furniture. Specifically, I’m hoping for a ship wheel and a Jolly Roger flag. My island has a pirate ship on the beach and I’m currently using 2 design slots for the wheel and the flag, so I’d be happy to get those back. Also, you can’t go wrong with the mermaid set.

Oh believe me, I get you! I agree things just should have been in the game. I feel like they were trying to do something fun or "different" to keep us entertained but it can be very frustrating sometimes.
Just like with Fallout 76 where things that should have been in the game since the beginning, ended up being charged extra money for DLC content...However, I'm just glad these updates are free as they could have charged us for these said updates as DLC. I am truly hoping they do not go down the road of say, having Shampoodle become paid DLC where you would have to pay for something that should have been in the game. In other words, I hope they don't pull a "Pokemon Sword and Shield" dex issue again just to save it for DLC content...
So far, it seems that these updates and "limited time events" they hold are their plans currently as free updates but with Nintendo now scrounging for money and pulling off some head scratching motives, you never know.
I appreciate that they finally added a feature that should be there in the first place, even though I'm not interested of diving. It gives everyone options. The mermaid set is okay. I might use a few if I feel like it fits my room. The pirate Gulliver is still a mystery so I'm not gonna expect too much.
They have every right to charge us for returning content, but they know it's a bad business move because most people will balk at paying for it and the backlash for making it paid DLC would likely outweigh the profits. Most people are okay with paying for "extra" content on top of an already complete game, but most people would refuse to pay for individual pieces of a game. Since AC is designed as a "family" game, they can't put too much stuff behind an extra paywall or it will turn off most of the consumer base.
The updates are underwhelming.

Look—“New Horizons” is wanting. Very wanting. Furniture items—indoor and outdoor—with colors that are island-specific. That stinks! Hybrids that are overly complicated (to get blue roses; to get others). Music score that is inferior. A mystery island that is garbage, and with islanders appearing with no logic to their order (like when one is missing a Peppy and the game throws islanders randomly from other categories as well). And we need amiibo cards for the eight brand-new islanders.
I am not too difficult to please. But, I never felt frustrated with “New Leaf” three months in as I do with “New Horizons.”
I am going to reorganize my island’s layout. This is going to happen after the wedding stuff—and, yeah, the events are also underwhelming—and this will go on after June. After I get my island reorganized, with layout, I think i will put down “New Horizons” for a while.

Okay, I see where you're coming from, but a lot of the 'free updates' are things that should have been there from the start. I'm trying not to be misunderstood here, so bare with me.
The base game is fine, and it provides enough content to last you for a while... But not enough where it has the same playability as older animal crossing games imo. This is because they left out things that they would introduce in later updates. This is fine--the game has enough content to last you until the next update and I have nothing wrong with them releasing content this way. However, even though they're free updates, they are things that should eventually be in the game either way. Like, imagine if they straight up decided to drop all the updates and just not bother with them- there's so much less to do in New Horizons imo that the game would die out pretty quickly. I reset my town because I had completed most of the stuff and I was just... bored (keeping in mind that I sunk at least 5000 hours into New Leaf, and at least a couple thousand in both Wild World and Let's Go To The City).
I don't see what's wrong withple being disappointed in an update if there were particular things that they were looking forward to. I really miss the café, and yeah, I'm a bit bummed that it's not out yet. There's nothing wrong with that.
Yes, it will come out eventually and yes, it's a good idea to be patient... But I don't see what's wrong with long time Animal Crossing fans wanting to see their favourite characters or features reintroduced to the game now.

Being told I should be grateful that Nintendo gave us a free update and the implication that my parents didn't raise me right because I'm disappointed in the update is kind of insulting. Nintendo is a company and I'm a customer. It's not a personal relationship and virtually any criticism of a paid product is fair to make. I'm using this analogy because I've managed in food service for years, but this update feels similar to when you order a pizza and you realize it's missing a topping after the delivery guy leaves. The shop is obligated to send you another one with the missing topping or, at the very least, give you a credit for a free one next time otherwise you might just start ordering somewhere else.
Exactly. When it's not recycled content, I'll praise them for an update. Terraforming, crafting, and more furniture customization aren't enough new features to support a game with poor dialogue, few furniture options, and very little multiplayer incentive. I barely talk to my villagers anymore because they same the same stuff all the time (even when I butt in to their conversations) and playing with my friends online got stale fast because there's nothing to do on each other's islands except shop.
Someone on another forum shared this video to explain why they hadn't bought the game yet despite being a fan, and it was really insightful.
I mentioned this in the last thread about the update, but more free content now is going to make players feel more inclined to spend their money in the future. Yellow leaf items are untradable, so it wouldn't be difficult for Nintendo to release paid DLC with items that we can't trade to other players.
