omg idk why it irks me so much when people are like.... hitting their "ugly" islanders with nets and making signs crossing out their faces. Poor babies. Everyone and everything deserves SOME love. Even Quillson, he's in my town now, I'm not his biggest fan but I like to sit and listen to him sing because he's always at my resident services singing to the songs I play. Rodney is no different! While I don't have him in my town and don't necessarily want to, I wouldn't be mean to him!

He's just not aesthetically appealing to most people which honestly isn't a big deal at all and if you like him you like him, if you don't you don't. It's not like certain villagers in this game have bad personalities or have done bad things while others are better people, this isn't that kind of game, they literally all share one of 8 personalities and if they personally affronted you somehow (such as moving onto your hybrid garden in New Leaf or you got them 10 times on mystery islands while looking for Raymond) that's just bad RNG and not their fault! Anyone, even your all-time favorite villager, could've done the same thing! I think some either people forget this, or just exaggerate their hatred of certain villagers for fun. But yeah I just personally think Rodney is kinda weird-looking so I wouldn't have him on my island is all lol.

Oh as a side note, there are certain villagers that I cannot stand for personal reasons (Like, every single one of the lions, if they were in my town I'd avoid them at all costs. They just remind me of somebody really bad.) But again, I personally wouldn't be "mean" to them idk o:
as far as the campsite trick goes iirc rodney's one of the same ppl who share space with marshal and raymond, whose popularity is ... well. yeah. you'll get him in your campsite, or he may even be the one smug villager you have to have move into your town no matter what ... so.
personally i think rodney, much like every villager, is super cute. he's not to my taste, but he's very chubby and ive a soft side for hamsters LMAO.

Same here tbh! Violet annoys me because not only do I not like gorillas irl or in the game at all, but I have a My Little Pony themed NL town and the character Applejack? Her family runs a massive apple orchard and farm. That's been their family business for generations. So I have a player house for her and it has just tons and tons of apple trees outside it. And who plops her house right in the middle of them and somehow specifically in the part where I had the perfect ones? Violet. It even extra annoyed me because another one of my towns has a mayor named Violet and I do not want to be sharing a name with a gorilla who destroys Applejack's orchard.
So yeah, Violet frustrates me for multiple reasons but if I had her I wouldn't fence her house in and hit her with nets and if she was like, a friend's fave somehow I wouldn't be rude about it lol. I also understand that Punchy or Static could've done that because that's just RNG and I would've gotten over it.

Ok now that I've thought about it a little - derpy is the word I would use to describe him. Cute, no not in the visual sense, but I think having him would be appealing in that he's just funny as this tiny, chubby little hamster trying to be all fancy and high-society when he looks anything but. He gives me a different feel from my Lionel, who comes off to me as similarly full of himself but without the same comedic appeal because he actually looks high-society. And he's a lion. I can laugh off Rodney's self-absorption because it's hilarious, not so much Lionel's.

Nothin' wrong with a teal hamster that likes to wear space suits.I like him but I think the combination of his ill-favored looks and smug personality is too creepy for a lot of people.
I think Rodney is getting hate that he doesn't deserve. I also feel like people are just hating on him, despite not having met him in person, just because others don't like him as well.
It's basically riding the Rodney hate train without even knowing him firsthand. I feel bad for the guy.

Tbh he’s kinda ugly. He looks like that one band kid who thinks edgy memes are a personality trait and would probably say slurs because “it’s dark humor ur just easily triggered!1!1!1!!1!!!!”.
Okay, I don’t think he’s *that* ugly but I think maybe if they changed his mouth and removed the freckles, he would look much better imo. I think some of the for him is kinda just bandwagon hate but whatever. In fact, I actually don’t hate him at all, I just think his design isn’t very good and could be improved upon.

I never had an issue with Rodney. I don't get why people dislike him. I do know of a few popular youtubers who had him and disliked his guts quite a bit. Honestly, I started seeing the trend of disliking him around that time.
