Tldr; I'm venting.

Seriously, I'm seeing people selling certain amiibo cards from double to triple digits. What the HECK??? That's just wrong. I pre ordered the Sanrio amiibo card pack from GAME when it was about to release, and never got my cards. I'm assuming they oversold or something. Which made me mad. After that I got kind of busy and put off getting them for a bit, my best friend was going to buy Chai for me for Christmas this past year, since she was my favorite in the set. The card was selling for like 10 bucks and NOW IT'S SELLING FOR 40. OMFG. WHY. So, I purchased a fan made one, which is when somebody makes the amiibo card from scratch, and it functions like the real one. But the way they're made is technically a hack. It's like a save file on a chip. I hate the feeling that I'm even close to hacking or using hacked amiibo, but this was the only way I could get Chai in my town. And I'm just so salty. It was very cheap though. And it's well made. I'm still excited to get it. I just have this slightly guilty feeling. :(

Its a shame they've so expensive. I never got the change to buy alot of cards, didn't know about it and its hard to find them. You could of made an complaint to Game, since that's not fair. Some people just see money when they get these sort of things. I once saw a Julian card for ?13 or something and thats ust unfair. Never mind its a popular villager, its still a card. And then others get their fav cards for small amounts because they aren't 'popular'

Don't feel guilty! You're not cheating Nintendo, since they aren't making the cards anymore, you're cheating the scalpers. Sorry you didn't get the cards when you ordered them in the first place! I'm glad the fan made one works for you. I've always wondered what those were. Kinda crazy they can even do that!

It just stinks. I bought several normal packs for fun when they first came out, and then some later, but someone still had to overpay to get my favorite villagers. Luckily Bones and Genji aren't worth a lot. Bless my friend for buying them. It's just like the smash amiibo all over again. I'm still so surprised though. At least back when they released, the Sanrio cards were everywhere, since in some places they were blind backs. You could buy a single card for around 5 bucks, which was nice. But now they're almost nonexistent online, and cost and arm and a leg.

Well, I knew that there was a way to do it with some sort of powersave tech or something, but I had no idea they could take it to this level since I normally avoid these sorts of things. But desperate times call for desperate measures. I love sanrio, chai, and chai tea! I needs it!

Honestly I don't feel bad in the slightest for buying fan-made versions of special cards or popular characters because I despise scalpers so much. Like there's really no need to price cards for sooo much money smh and it's not like there's alot of stores that even sell the official cards anymore in the first place. And like sophieleaf said, the sanrio cards aren't being officially made anymore so you shouldn't feel guilty for getting fan ones! Sorry you never got your pack, but I'm glad you were able to get Chai at least!

Yeah don't feel bad about buying a knockoff? that still works the same. It's not your fault that Nintendo didn't make enough or that scalpers are the scum of the Earth.

Thanks! You guys are all easing the guilt. I'm kinda sad that the cards are just dying off, they're extinct. TRU recently had a sale near me where you'd buy one get 3 packs free. It's wild. Too bad I had already sworn off of them before then.

Yeah. I don't feel too bad, it was just a wee bit of guilt. One for basically hacking the game, and two for buying a knock off of something made by one of my favorite companies. But, it isn't like a crime or anything, and I'm still happy. No hate for Nintendo on my part. Just disappointed in the retailer that failed to get me my product, and the people making money off of loyal fans.

You can order normal villager packs from nintendo and toys rus still, not san rio or WA unfortunately, my WA are fan made as well.

Yeah, I just bought a normal pack a few months ago. Didn't even get anyone I was actually looking for. :s Kinda why I stopped buy-in them, despite the sales.

It shouldn't be allowed.
Nintendo should release them again, instead of providing a market for these scalpers. :-/

I admit, I have spent over $250 on series 5, and Sanrio, and a further $100+ on amiibo figures over the past year.

Shocking.

I spent too much money just on the cards of my villagers, if they ever move out. This has always been an issue with Nintendo. They're secretly the scalpers. They make fake Ebay accounts and fool us all.

I never even saw the sanrio set go on sale, and I was watching like ten different websites haha. I finally bought a fan made set on etsy like a month ago, since I have no chance of getting the cards legit. I'm really happy I did. It's ridiculous though. I was looking for Marshal, and he's going for 50 bucks on Amazon! My TRU still has some cards, but they're going out of business so nowhere in my town will sell them anymore. I'm also pretty close to completing my collection, so it's probably not worth it to buy any packs anymore. I hate scalpers though, getting nintendo merchandise is tough haha.

Don?t worry I spent ?18 on Julian?s amiibo card, plus ?4 on delivery charge from Germany. No regrets at all because I was that desperate.

It's just because the amiibo cards are so rarely available. I used to sell them to people for reasonable prices, but eventually they sold out everywhere and now they're not at all available anymore. The people that still have the cards, will sell them for ridiculous prices, because of rarity.

Hey, don't feel bad! I've posted on quite a bit of amiibo card threads and I can honestly say I'm fed up as well. I spent $15 each on June and Ketchup on eBay because I couldn't find them cheaper anywhere else. I cringe every time I happen to look up a popular villager's card out of curiosity. $40-$50 for Marshal? That's insane. I can't understand why Nintendo won't up their amiibo card production. Maybe they like seeing us fight like wild dogs? Anyway, back to the Sanrio card knockoff. There's nothing wrong with buying something more friendly for your budget. If it works properly and cost a lot less, there's no reason to feel bad about it. I still can't believe Nintendo didn't release the Sanrio set in the U.S. though...

It's typical of Nintendo to under-produce items; they did it with the mini consoles, I've seen it with some games, so I'm not surprised that they did it with the cards. It really doesn't make sense, since the high prices don't go to the company, but it seems they don't learn/care about changing from past practice on this.

That said, I wouldn't feel guilty about buying fan-made cards. I bought the set of Sanrio, as well as the Zelda, Splatoon, and Wisp/Villager cards from someone. If anything, I'd say that these are even more durable than the official cards, and they work just as well.

I get what you're saying about hacks, as I don't hack my village, either, but if the company won't work with us on this, you need to just weigh how much you want Chai (or whatever other item/villager) and go from there. I don't think anyone would fault you for taking that route.

Yeah the market is pretty bad right now. Don't feel bad about buying a nock-off! I'm glad the few cards I bought (and some of my favourite villagers) aren't top tier, so they were only a few dollars each. But yeah, crazy prices. I'm sure you did your digging, but sometimes you can find gems :S

I've gotten really lucky just trolling around eBay once a week. I mean, if you don't care what cards you get, there are some pretty nice deals out there. I've gotten 140 cards for $70. Not as nice as buying the unopened mystery packs, but at today's going prices, it's really a bargain. For favorite characters, the most I've shelled out is $11 for Pietro. As for the Sanrio sets, I paid $3.25 per set - added the person's FC and picked up every single item for all 6 sets. I thought that was a really great deal considering how much people sell the physical cards for. Easy peasy transaction.
