So.. my town vanished. Completely gone, for no reason.

2. Closing the 3DS (not turning it off) puts it in SLEEP mode- totally safe, that is Unless the user did NOT Save & the 3DS battery drains.
This is probably true for most people, but I've personally experienced a problem with this once. I closed my DS and thus put it in sleep mode because I had to go do something else quickly. When I came back after a few minutes and opened my DS, both screens were black. I waited for at least 30 seconds but nothing happened, and I could see my 3DS was still on. After a little while I held down the power button to turn it off. I only lost the stuff I'd done after my last save, which wasn't much, but since that happened I never put mine in sleep mode anymore while it's running AC.

I've also heard some other stories about stuff going wrong when putting the DS in sleep mode. Not sure if corruption of data was amongst them, but I'm pretty sure I'd read about the screens going black before it happened to me.

@OP: I'm really sorry to hear that happened! I hope you can still bring up the motivation to start all over again!

*UPDATE*UPDATE*UPDATE*

As promised, I contacted Nintendo and here is their reply:
"Dear (Datura),

Thank you for contacting Nintendo.

We do apologise about what has happened, it is recommended booking in your console and game for assessment if this should occur again.

If you would like us to provide you with repair details please let us know.

Thank you for your email."

Sooo... doesn't seem to be a common thing. Let's hope it was just a fluke. Or a faulty system/cartridge though I have trouble hoping that ಠ_ಠ

My original 3DS used to do the black screen thing at least once a week. The XL has never done it (yet)

Datura, if I can help with anything do say :)

I've had this happen to two of my friends now. They told me that their copies of the game just ended - but they didn't know what happened.
Looks like it's becoming a problem...

Aw I'm sorry! I think I would flip if that happened :T I wish Nintendo had a cloud storage of some sort considering how they've gone more digital in recent years.

Me too, but also being able to download your games without a transfer, even if there's a limit per console ect...

anyway, now I'm scared to close my 3DS while playing Animal Crossing and taking a break>_<

STOP IT I'M DYING OF ANXIETY HERE I MAY AS WELL NOT JUST GO ON THE GAME ANYMORE OK

Easy... Just save before you do anything and you will be fine. If you were scared of bad things happening, you'd never leave your house in real life. There are problems with everything. Take your phone or your computer, google it and see how many people have problems with it and yet you'll probably never have any issue with yours (users of my phone type reported the touchscreen randomly breaking of it's own accord, yet I've dropped mine onto concrete, off tables etc and not a mark on it anywhere!). A tiny percentage of items go wrong, that will never stop, but also makes it highly unlikely that anything will happen.

Plus, if it does, people are more than willing to help get you back on track provided there's not too much drama about it...

OP, this is terrible and I hope you get back to where you were ASAP, good luck :)

I agree with the others - If you closed the 3DS while it was still saving, that might have corrupted/wiped the data. I'm sorry it happened to you though. :(
