I’ve been searching for Raymond for 3 flipping hours and still nothing. Almost used up all my nmt. Any tips?

Odds are VERY MUCH against you if you’re hunting for Raymond via island hopping. The game doesn’t pull from the full list of villagers at once (giving you about a 1/400 shot at any particular villager). Instead, it first rolls for species (each species has a chance of 1/35) before choosing a specific villager. While this is awesome for those making mono-species islands (like me) or looking for the once-rare octopi villagers, it makes hunting for specific villagers harder for most species, ESPECIALLY cats. In order to find one specific cat, you have to go through the species roll (1/35) and roll for the specific cat (1/23). This puts your odds at around 1/805. To put that in perspective, the absolute best odds for shiny hunting in Pokémon with the Masuda method (one of the faster methods to obtain a shiny Pokémon) are about 1/512. I wish you luck in this hunt.

Edit: I WILL note that I did find him with about 300 tickets spread over several hunts, so it is possible to find him earlier. However, like many others are suggesting if you’re looking for him and only him and you aren’t against TTing/are very patient I would use the campsite method while keeping your island free of smugs. This skews the odds towards smug villagers while removing every non-Raymond smug with every time you get one.

Luck definitely is a big factor on landing a specific villager. So far, I spent 519 Nook Miles tickets across five separate island hopping sessions and didn't land Judy. I ended up getting Raymond two days ago and booted him out today.

I wish you all the best though! :)

Like someone already mentioned, if you don't already have a smug villager then I'd highly recommend using the campsite method. I got him in my campsite the same week my only smug moved out. If you aren't familiar with it then you can easily google a tutorial or search on this forum since I saw a lot of threads about it back in April or so.

I am also looking for Raymond. I didn’t like my NMT RNG odds so I’m trying the random move in way.
What I learned is that when you have an empty lot that it will be filled with a personality type you’re missing.
I have every personality type but smug And hoping I get lucky and he moves in at some point... think it’s like a 1/36 chance but def a slow process.

Unfortunately there's no "tips" to really share when it comes to luck-based features like island hopping. If you don't have a smug already and are willing to time travel, I would recommend looking into the campsite method. You could always check the trading boards here too and see if anyone is trading for him.

Funny thing is I’ve almost always run into Judy these past few hunts at least once. It’s getting kind of ridiculous. RNG is crazy.

Island hopping for a specific villager is based on purely RNG luck.

I spent 3 days of my life looking for Raymond via the campsite method. You might want to try it, unless you don't want to tt at all. Again, how quickly you get Raymond using the campsite method involves luck. Some people spent a few minutes, some people spent hours or even, like me, days. But you will eventually get him.

Other than all that, consider adopting him from another player?

Best of luck to you!

It's definitely luck based... I remember going through all my 200 NMTs and no Raymond - although I found my other dreamies and some cool species that I haven't met yet that way. It's not good if you're looking for someone specific. All of that while my husband finds Raymond on his 3rd NMT XD It definitely is frustrating. I haven't tried the campsite method yet but I did manage to get Dom that way when Mott moved out of my island. I wish you luck on your hunting!

It is. I ran into Audie twice. For the other new villagers in New Horizons, I was able to meet up with Cyd, Raymond, and Sherb. I have yet to meet Reneigh and Dom though.
