So did they find proof that you can start with Uchi & Smug villagers?

Ok,guys...this is a long shot.....a verrrry long shot but New Leaf's producer,Katsuya Eguchi, has a Twitter page and I tweeted him about the uchi/smug starting five dilemma. If by some miracle I hear anything,I'll let you know.

Good.

No matter what his response is, I did start with Henry and Muffy.

That's just a fact, and I won't forget it because it was my first map, and first time playing NL.

Oh wow, this is kind of wild O: I always thought the starting villagers were entirely random / not based in personality, so I guess it never crossed my mind that you couldn't start with an uchi or smug! While I've only had 2 NL towns, they both started off with cranky, peppy, snooty, jock, and lazy, too. Though I guess I'm sort of confused why you wouldn't be able to start with an octopus? O: I just assumed that it would be rare since, not counting Inkwell, there's only three of them.

With respect to this thread, I will address it in some detail of these Villager Personality Categories.

First Tier:

1) Cranky
2) Snooty
3) Lazy
4) Normal
5) Jock
6) Peppy

The game starts you off with five of those six.

Second Tier:

7) Smug
8) Uchi

More:

9) Additional Male or Female
10) Additional Female or Male

Now, I listed those in order of where I slotted them in my second town, ACNLpics, deliberately to make a point: The design of “Animal Crossing: New Leaf” is to give you five from the First Tier. On Day #02, you will get a plot. (The game forces it.) If you don’t control which specific villager would come in, you will be given at No. 6: a First Tier or a Second Tier, which is a Smug or an Uchi. On Day #03, that No. 6-slotted villager moves in. On Day #04, you will get a plot for a First Tier or a Smug or an Uchi. On Day #05, that No. 7-slotted villager moves in. On Day #06, you will get a plot for a First Tier or a Smug or an Uchi. On Day #07, that No. 8-slotted villager moves in. On Day #08, you will get a plot for an Additional Male or Additional Female. On Day #09, that No. 9-slotted villager will move in. (When I mention “slotted,” I’m referring to the exact order of the list, on your menu screen, of who are your town’s villagers. No. 1. No. 2. No. 3. Etc.)

The game gives you the freedom for the No. 10-slotted villager. You don’t have to have one at all. You will pick up one if you catch a voided villager from another town. But, ultimately, “Animal Crossing: New Leaf” demands you have nine. If, at any point, you have eight villagers, a game date will arrive in which a plot for a ninth villager emerges.

I set up and controlled my ACNLpics town, which is the museum-themed town (villagers’ and special characters’ pictures are on display in the houses of the humans), in the following order:

1) Cranky — Apollo
2) Snooty — Diana
3) Lazy — Biskit
4) Normal — Marina
5) Jock — Kevin
6) Peppy — Peanut
7) Smug — Eugene
8) Uchi — Katt
9) Additional Male — Fang
10) Additional Female — Merengue

I have been playing “Animal Crossing: New Leaf,” with establishing my first town Applewin, since August 17, 2013. I have never had any town, kept or deleted, which gave me Day #01 villagers consisting of a Smug and/or an Uchi. I know from experience—I had many “deleted” towns, ones very brief, allowing me to get all those villagers’ pictures that I have in ACNLpics. (Information on ACNLpics is in my signature.) None of those temporary towns started with a Smug and/or an Uchi. This was the intention of the game’s design. “Animal Crossing: New Leaf” wants its players to experience all the Villager Personality Categories.
