snooties toned down even more?

gta isnt meant for the target demographic of animal crossing

I think more adults play AC than kids.

There's a difference between sass and nastiness.. and between witty and mean.
They didn't need to further labotomize the brain dead NL villagers.

Just a bit of the old sass and wit from Wild World would have been great.

that's just what u see more of cuz young kids dont rlly go on forums and twitter, plus we're talking about Japan mainly. the same argument is always used for pokemon too, and the same reasoning applies for that franchise as well.

and ya i was talking specifically about villagers calling u ugly and stuff, not about them being grumpy, cuz lots of people want that back but its straight up toxic and shouldnt be in a cute childrens game with animal neighbours.

that being said i do miss WW dialogue, but NH seems a LOT better than NL in my eyes

Snooty villagers seem to be more like “elegant and polite”. They remind me of nice rich old ladies.

I haven’t figured out what cranky villagers are yet. Not cranky. All I’ve really seen them do is make jokes about being old. If they’re going to be called cranky, every conversation with them needs to be unpleasant. Idk why Nintendo doesn’t get it anymore.

They were toned down in new leaf and they’re worse in new horizons, which I expected.

You can blame tumblr. That era of the internet made everyone really sensitive and politically correct. That’s why Resetti was nerfed in new leaf and now he’s operating a helicopter we can’t see.

I personally feel like people are often exaggerating just how mean they were tbh. I certainly don't remember it being anything more than just comic rudeness when I played GCN Animal Crossing as a little kid. People just want them to be a bit more interesting and have a bit more depth to their personality, we're not saying they should bully us lol.

Agree with this 100%, I truly do think it’s way too sensitive to get upset over it. It certainly made the game more fun and quirky to have them be comically rude. If you don’t like it, you don’t have to play it.

Also, I think kids are way more resilient than most people think.

thats fair, tho i've literally seen cases of villagers being actually mean, so thats what the thread is referring to.
i dont agree or disagree, i was just showin u a very possible reason behind the change, tbh i personally dont care, but i do understand the concept of a life sim for young kids havin to be smooth

I hope so.
I start my game next week when my switch arrives, and with so much taken out of the game, the villager dialogue was something I am hoping hasn't suffered. :)

hoping u enjoy it!!

I think what made it alluring for a lot of people is they would start out mean, and as time passed and you built up friendships with these villagers you saw them start to warm up towards you and it really gave you an accomplished fuzzy feeling. But when they start off already rather kind, the progress isn't as evident

ya i miss that from WW tbh... it felt good

Yeah I never cried over Resetti or the cranky/snooty villagers as a kid, and I was a huge crybaby as a kid. Mostly I remember my brother typing rude messages back when Resetti would get on you for resetting.

I don’t mind their current personalities but I also feel like there isn’t much change between becoming friends with a villager and where you start out with them. As others have said the snooties start out with endearments right away, the cranky villagers are more like old men with joint pain than anything else, my peppy villagers almost immediately started calling me “bestie.” If they’re concerned about people getting upset over the harsher aspects of the GC game that’s fine, but it doesn’t feel like you’ve actually earned anything when the villagers all start out treating you as their best friend (minus complaining about your talking to them more than twice a day).

this post is specifically referring to the game cube version though from what I can see.. yeah I don't think they should literally harass you, but being a bit stand-offish especially when literally almost all your other villagers wouldn't be a big deal. Even when I was playing WW before NH came out the snooty villagers were... snooty, but didn't seem horribly awful and I don't think it's crazy people want that back since you feel like you're progressing more with them

ya i think WW was a good balance!!

Diana straight roasted Kidd, and she acted really annoyed with me when I first started talking to her a lot. It took her a bit to actually talk to me, but they do seem more elegant and rich lady-ish.

I agree that I wouldn't want villagers to be mean. But I think it would be good if they were a bit more distinguishable in their personalities. Characters can be snooty without being mean, and same with cranky.
yeah i can agree with both of you on this, like, tbh i'm 23 and when i look back at all the old gamecube dialogue that everybody says they want back--stuff where you get called a bumbling idiot and useless oaf and an utter waste and "the mental runt of the litter" (actual things i know they say in the game, not an exaggeration here) and so on and so on--it makes me sad too, because i know it's just a silly video game but it's supposed to be cute and relaxing and i don't wanna go talk to my favorite villager and get called an annoying dimwit or a fat bloated idiot (again, actual things they say in that game) because i had to deal with that kind of stuff enough when i was in school! they could be snarkier and sassier again and the crankys and snootys should definitely live up to their names a bit more but a lot of the gamecube dialogue actually is just outright mean-spirited and i've never liked it. from what i know of wild world's dialogue i think it was a decent balance.

Mallary's pretty mean on my island. Talk to her three times and she's complains. Though, Renee was the meanest so far. She said, "You again!? Do I need to get another island?"

Villagers are not very mean in ACGC. They don't hit you in the back of head with an axe, or shove you into a pitfall, or dig holes around you and laugh while you can't move anywhere.

cranky villagers: ah my back hurts

jock villagers: i live and breathe sports. i do seven 5k marathons a day. my shirts are designed with muscle in mind. ball is life. i hit the gym 20 times a week and my biceps are my pride and joy. i am on so many steroids. bro. if you don't speak ball we don't speak at all.
