It could've been when Jigglypuff sings and pulls out the marker like in the anime.

FTR only the starting roster was officially confirmed. All unlockable characters get their official confirmation (and POTDs) after release. (excluding Lucina)
The same happened with Brawl, I think the only reason people doubted that it would be the same this time is because the starting roster is as big as Brawl final roster.

I like Dark Pit. He is just so awesome. Since pit was kinda OP in Brawl, I can only imagine what Dark Pt will be like.
