Slow swimming :(

I wish they had gotten rid of making you tap A to swim with any kinds of speed. I have lupus which affects my joints, and swimming is really hard on my hand. I imagine it would be even more painful for people with things like arthritis, carpal tunnel, tendonitis, etc.

It would have been a lot easier for people with disabilities or other issues if they'd made it so we could just hold down a button, like when we sprint.
I agree with this 100%. It's not so much the speed that bugs me, but the constant need to tap A just to move -_-

Holding down the A button seems to only be around 20% slower than tapping the heck out of it. I have timed this: 130 vs 104 seconds to swim all the way along the long side of the net. Calmly pressing it, every 1 or 2 seconds and holding it in between got me there in 115 seconds. It's not perfect, but don't go too hard on yourself because the difference is smaller than it looks :)

I am always amazed by the stuff people find the need to complain about. What do you expect? That you are propelled by rocket flippers?

Its not fast, but definitely not slow... If you keep A pressed it's quite a soothing experience. I sometimes wonder why people that complain about things like these even play a game that's meant to be slow paced.

i agree with this, i don’t tap constantly because i have some joint issues. just try to enjoy the relaxing nature of it haha

It is slow but I don’t really mind. I just like being in the water! I think it looks gorgeous, especially when you dive and you can see little cliffs/rocks/whatever it is under the surface.

I like the way the creatures appear this time too. Granted it’s been a while since I’ve dived in New Leaf but I feel like the bubbles this time are more apparent? So it’s easier to see when there’s something to catch which I appreciate.

true lmaooo pressing A can be annoying but it is what it is. if anything i wouldn't complain about the speed at all, but my button getting too worn. i wonder how durable are the switch lite buttons? i'm always scared of it breaking because i wouldn't be able to back up my island. should have saved up more for the regular one but the ac edition was hard to find at the time :(

I find it matches the slow-paced, relaxing nature of the game. They might have made swimming slow for a more immersive experience that isn’t rushed.

Oh, that's really good to know - thank you! I'll be sure to just try holding A instead, as that sounds much more manageable.

It might just be for the sake of complaining or getting easy TBT (do we get TBT for posting a new thread?). That, or people are just spoiled. First there was no swimming and people complained. Now we have swimming and people are complaining. It’s perfectly fine the way it is.

I did feel like it was kinda slow but I don't have any problem with that honestly. It's roughly the same speed as NL and I think the only reason it's more noticeable now is because there's so much more space to swim.

one thing I will mention is how agonising it was to get a gigas giant clam though lol. that was an experience

I just hold down A and I think that's a decent medium speed. I also think it's pretty realistic - unless you're an Olympic swimmer that's about the speed you go irl too.

Another protip everyone probably already figured out, you don't even need to hold the joystick forward when you press or hold A, you just steer while A propels you forward.

i mean it is slow but im not rly bothered by it. i swim to get bells "passively" while doing other things, so the slow speed of it allows me to catch bubbles in time when my focus is split. most of the time, my creatures all spawn within the same lil are so its not like i have to zoom at the speed of light to go get my 20th sea grapes. it could be faster, but if the speed isn't increased i wont be particularly upset.

I'm finding it really difficult to dive for a long time or cover large distances. I keep getting caught in the back of my island having to swim to the Redd beach to get back. I wish you could go even just a little bit faster. Maybe they'll introduce flippers for more speed, haha!

I mean, back when I was swimming so much in New Leaf where it was so slow, I've gotten used to it. I'm not really annoyed by the swimming speed at all. So far, I'm glad jellyfish don't pop up anymore to ruin my day lol.

Swimming sucks pretty much in every game where you play as a human. Xenoblade, Breath of the Wild,.... I cant think of an example where swimming isnt slow and cumbersome. You know why? Because they're base on humans, not dolphins.

Feels the same as NL to me, I'm fine with it. Everything else in the game is paced like ordinary calm living and the swimming feels like the same theme per se.

My only complaint is the suits aren't a tool like they were in new leaf and they can't be added to your tool ring.
