Does anyone dabble in the simple skills or tricks like Rubiks cubes or yoyos? Maybe sleight of hand fun like juggling or card tricks? Magic? Anything else I am most likely forgetting?

I was interested in these things as a kid, but then I went "adult". Turns out, as I get older, these things have become fun again, and they are things I want to learn for fun! There are so many things that I have yet to learn! I would love to hear what entertaining "party tricks" you all might know and share!

I love party and magic tricks, even if I'm not great at them! I love having card tricks done on me, it's always fun

I learned how to solve a rubiks cube a few years back, I still do them from time to time to keep the memory of how to solve one! I really do enjoy it though, and it gives me something to do with my hands when I'm watching a show or a movie. I have three, so I cycle through each of them from mixing up #1 -> mixing up #2 -> mixing up #3 -> solving #1 and so on. In not exceptionally fast or anything, but if im ever in a scenario where I'm told to solve the rubiks cube or die, I'm making it out of there alive 💀

I can do probably only three or four card tricks: one is with the Jack cards, another the Queens, and the third one I can think of off the top of my head is the one with 21 cards. There's this other one that's for any two cards, but I don't personally like it because part of the trick is springing the cards into the person's face and it ending up like 52 card pick-up, but you actually do get their cards right (terrible explanation, ik 😂) I definitely don't have the stage presence to perform these well for others, but it's cool to know how to do them lol

I can't juggle or yoyo for the life of me, but it's funny to try regardless. I also can never wrap my head around a lot of sleight of hand, so I don't really attempt them. Maybe someday though!

Your description of this trick made me laugh, I think I need to learn it!

I got a Rubik themed magic kit. Some of the tricks are interesting. The one that looks the most impressive is there’s this little container and a tiny Rubik cube is placed inside the clear container. Then you shake the entire container hard once or twice and the cube falls apart into tinier cubes.

That sounds really cool! I will have to look for that magic kit! I'm a sucker for anything Rubik's. I have a Rubik's cube coffee mug even... cant solve it, except to finish my coffee.

I don't like any of this stuff but you reminded me of a story. When I was in fourth grade, they came out with the round yo yos, the ones shaped like a ball.

My friend brought one to school and was showing it to the class and said "... and it comes back just like a regular yo yo." Right as he said that, he yo yo'd with it, and it somehow came off the string and flew across the room instead of coming back like a regular yo yo 🤣

Lucky for him that teacher was cool and we all laughed. My friend was embarrassed at first. Then he realized what he did was gold and he laughed with us.

I don't know, but fingerboarding is something I've been doing for a long while. That can go under "Skill Toys" if you ask me.

In grade school, Tech Decks were super popular. I mean, at least they were until the darn principal shut it down and banned them 😅

Good answer! I have a ridiculous amount of Tech Decks and they are definitely a skill toy! Really difficult actually. I can only do a few tricks with mine. I never got into spending money on the higher end finger boards though.

I remember my friends bringing those to school when we were in middle school. I didn't have any but they had extras and would let me borrow them. They would even bring their rails and ramps to school lol

They never left me out of stuff even though I was poor and didn't have any of what they did. They were so cool to me and made me forget my lack of stuff plus the fact that even if my parents had money, they still wouldn't have bought me what my friends had.

I'm no good at the rails and ramps, just good old flat ground ollies and flip tricks.

I only started with them a couple of years or so ago when a coworker brought one to work. I get sucked into things like this way too easily 😆 although I do remember my step son playing with them with his friends way back when. I never tried them myself at the time.

Sounds like you grew up like me. My friends had all of the cool stuff and they included me. All I had were things like a small umbrella I got one Christmas, and a pink jacket that was the most comfortable jacket ever, but... well, it was the late 80's and as a boy I was bullied for wearing it.

I think maybe thats why I enjoy these things now so many years later. I can afford to buy a decent yoyo now, and anything else I would like to learn that I couldn't before

Oh, wearing that jacket had to be ROUGH! Unfortunately I think even today a boy would hear crap for wearing a pink jacket.

A friend would let me play his game boy color pretty much the whole bus ride home. I'm sure he really wanted to play but it's like they all understood my situation even though I never told them anything.
