Who enjoys gardening/plants?

Yeah I always keep a garden growing! I have very limited outdoor space to work with but I maximize it by keeping most of them in pots. I mostly grow flowering plants. Only certain plants will tolerate the low levels of sunlight we get for much of the year here and survive the winter though. I've had the best success with succulents and vines. I've had some of my succulents for many years. I had much less success with edible plants, for the most part only having been able to produce small strawberries or tomatoes. I have a fig tree too and this was actually the first year it grew edible figs. I'm not so great at growing indoor plants though. I've tried several and despite all the advice I've tried to follow, I can't keep one alive for more than a couple years at best. The only exception is a couple of aquatic plants I've kept in my aquarium for several years, those seem very easy to maintain.
I want to grow some flowers and plant a garden but then there’s the issue that literally any plant I try to grow always die on me. I’m not joking. I had a bamboo plant die because all of the water in its vase mysteriously dried up and it wasn’t leaking and I habitually added water to it every two or three days without fail. Then there’s the succulent plant that completely dried up despite me misting it with water daily. And the parsley plant I tried to grow that died on me in only a month. I don’t think that plants like me very much.
It happens! There's so many variables that need to be just right for it to thrive and just one to throw the whole dang thing down the drain. It can be so frustrating especially if you're growing something in a garden and watching it thrive and then intense heat waves and excessive rain kills it all. I'm currently seeing that happen to my garden. I've still managed to salvage and nurse a lot of it back to health, but my tomatoes aren't yielding anything and by this time of the year I usually get a handful. But every garden here has pretty much died due to the weird weather so at least I managed not total annihilation? 😅

I'm still happy with what I managed to harvest. I tried broccoli, brusslesprout, and celery this year as an experimentation. And so far they're all doing good or I got a bountiful harvest from them. I'm going to pick my pumpkins soon before they rot and then freeze the meat chunks for soup (they make amazing soup!)

Best of the luck if you decide to try some flowers Jiggly!🎉 While I can't say I have all the answers I've done gardening for a few years so I'm happy to lend some advice if you think it may help.
Succulents were my gateway plant, and now I’ve got a whole shelf of herbs and a few leafy vines. It’s weirdly calming to watch them grow and change over time.
Succulents are very nice and pretty plants to grow! And you can keep them indoor so they don't die during winter. I've been growing cactus from seed and it's been so cool seeing it grow from a tiny baby sprout to what it is now. It's still got a ways to go. The needles are so fuzzy and not pokey like I thought they would be. It's like a wooly cactus-mammoth 😆

I also am growing onions, carrots and turnips and they're doing great so far!

My carrot harvest! I'm especially proud of this one because it's really hard to grow carrots. At least for me it is. The seeds are so mega tiny! It's hard enough to get one seed planted in a row without them clumping since they're so small and stick. I've tried for years by just sowing, but what happens is they end up clumping. And then when they start to sprout they get stuck and stunted. And trying to gently spread them out isn't easy. They're fragile and die easily from shock. I learned that the hard way for a few years. Then I got discouraged and stopped until this year I figured I would give it one more try.

So I looked online what the heck others did. They used seed tape. The carrots are already spread out on sticky biodegradable tape that can be planted on the ground with some dirt. But the options were limited and the varieties were not desirable. So I found some lady that made diy seed tape. It was toilet paper with a mixture of flour and water as the glue.

This process itself took forever. I made a ton of strips and even in an enclosed room with no wind it was so hard getting the seed to go where I wanted to. But I got it done! Then the time came to plant it in my boxes. Over the months I've had to de-weed it carefully not to hurt the carrot tops. And then finally all my hard work paid off!

Will I do them next year? It's hard to say. There's a lot I swear I will never do again and then next year comes around and I torture myself all over

How is everyone's gardens or plants doing this year if you're doing anything?

That carrot harvest is amazing!!

I finally have ONE plant, an indoor plant. It's a lucky bamboo that I keep in the bathroom. I got it a few months ago and it has already been through so much. The leaf tips started to yellow so I drilled holes into the bottom of the pot, replaced the soil, moved it further away from the window, and started using distilled water only. Also watered less often. The yellowing stopped!
But then fungus gnats started to appear and began partying all over my lucky bamboo, so I didn't water it for nearly a month and then switched to bottom watering only, and now the gnats finally seem to be gone 😮‍💨

Your plant is still alive! Sometimes you can do everything right and one little variable throws everything out of whack. Just keep at it and I'm sure it will jump back and thrive 🎉

I peeled, chopped, and froze all the carrots for soups and other things. I already used some for a cream-based soup I've been dying to make for the longest time. It turned out pretty good to! Getting that big harvest of carrots made me feel like I hit the jackpot in Stardew or something 😆

I love appreciating all sorts of plants, trees, and flowers, but I'm not much of a green thumb at all. My solution to that is only keeping succulents and cacti, since I have the best chance of them surviving! I've even managed to take cuts from them and grow them in other pots (which required almost no effort, but I was still proud of that). I keep all of my plants (at least at the moment) at work, because it's a nice distraction during the day to go and water them. 🪴

Cactus are fun! I grew some prickly pears by seed. I've had them for a few years now and it's really taken a while for them to get to the point they're at. They're still so small, but I love them! It was fun seeing it slowly transform to a little leaf to a fuzzy stick. The needles still aren't prickly at all. It's like a fuzzy caterpillar. I planted all 30? and only a handful took and I still have all of them.

Good luck with your succulent and cacti! ❤️🎉
