So I’ve been having some creative block recently and want to add yards to my villagers houses but I don’t know where to start! Here, you can post pictures of the yards you made around your villagers houses to inspire others in fueling their creative sparks!

Mine don't have any.

I have hedges, bushes and some have something out the front.

This was Poppy's Yard at one point but I had to move it elsewhere and simplify it because this part of my island lags like crazy. It's probably one of my favorite yards that I've made my villagers. To the left is the post office.

Then above Poppy's house are Coco's and Agnes' yards. This is an early pic and I've planted two trees behind their houses later. My whole island is a Japanese countryside vibe.

BTW this is Kabuki's yard at the moment but I'm moving his house in the future. He even has a bamboo garden as his back yard and someone to play go with him.

My whole island is still a work in progress, but I'm happy with these so far c:

mine don't really have yards. I have some type of flower/bush by all their houses. Most have a doorplate/wreath. I'm trying to have some items by each house but not done yet. A few have the items you had to craft to have them move in in the beginning(stone table/chair, clothesline, iron table/chair and birdhouse). Raymond has a cat tower and cat grass outside his house, Cobb has a lawn chair and Molly has a kiddie pool. I'm trying to come up with stuff for Walt, Soleil and Filbert. I'm thinking of giving Soleil a hamster cage but i'm not sure if that would be mean lol.

On my current island all my villagers are kinda grouped into a small area by my airport. It’s kinda cramped but my parents love the free space. On the island I’m planning on making I’ll probably give more space to them because I’m going to use the starting area for all my non-nature fixtures.

Not ALL my villagers have yards... but a few do. Here are the ones I have right now:

The top one is Coach, the bottom two... well, you can see the home owner's right there- Merry and Dobie.

The idea for Coach's was just a workout area. It's also somewhat near the beach, so I kept it bright and the hibiscus shrubs added extra color and tropical flair. I tried to think of a good workout machine or something to have outside, but he has SO many in his house, so it felt redundant. But then I realized the colorful tire stack looked REALLY nice beside his house, and I added the dirt patch, because I imagine it's his new, avant garde exercise regiment- he moves the tires back and forth. He also has a protein shake bottle right there, and water in the cooler, so he can stay hydrated.

Merry's is pretty fancy 'cause I wanted one fit for a future pop star! You can't see the full area around the pond, but there are lilies and peach trees (if Tangy ever moves in, this gets converted to her yard, and those are replaced with orange trees ☺) and wedding fencing that ropes it off- but you can still walk over the lily part to fish. Her house is on the west part of my island,on a large chunk of land that is really dedicated to her house/yard and that's it (though the strip of beach below it has a nice boardwalk)

Dobie's house is in the top right corner of my island, on the strip of land that's separated by the river coming off one of the river mouths. There's just that log bridge going to it to make it feel more isolated and haphazard. He has a "Keep Out" sign because the local young 'uns like to use the beach beside his house (there's a rocky part just to the north) for late-night bonfire parties. He gets grumpy and hollers at them, but he secretly enjoys listening to their music from his house. His main yard has an oil barrel bathtub and heater, 'cause they look neat. As well as a generator, because it fits with his off-the-grid aesthetic. He's got a campfire for cooking food, and that little folding chair overlooks the river (and there's a break in the barbed wire fence) so he can fish there. He also has a small fishing area by the ocean, too!

I keep meaning to take photos of my villagers’ yards, but always forget until either nighttime or a rainy day 😭 For now, here’s a photo of Norma’s yard that gives you the gist of my decorating style. I aim to give each villager a yard that reflects their colour preferences and favourite activities. So for Norma, this meant soft pink flowers, a white bench to read (or nap) on, and a clothesline (not visible in the photo).

Other villager yards include:
Apollo - America themed with red, white, and blue roses, a rocket, and white fireplace with a globe on the mantle

Antonio - sand-filled yard with exercise equipment and clothing

Molly - a maple-leaf pondstone, orange hyacinths to match the warm colour of her log cabin, and a duck decoy

Dotty - yellow and white mums, and lots of shrubs (she’s a rabbit after all)

I feel your pain! Up until the last week or so I've just had the houses all in a row with some flowers and trees. Their yards were just empty or overrun with flowers. Recently I've been more interested in trying to personalize their yard areas! Still, the houses are super close together so it's been a struggle.

The first thing I did that I think makes a major difference and is great in a tight space, was adding villager "mailboxes". These are just tiny libraries flipped around. I customized each of them to match (as best as I could with the limited options) the exteriors of their homes. So many people have commented on that while visiting!

I also add 2-3 little items in their yard. For example, I did a dog house for bones with one of the Mom's plush dogs. It's sort of like a mini version of him and his home!

I'm looking forward to doing this sort of thing for all my villagers as they come and go! I don't have clear ideas or a setup for everyone yet, but it's a WIP.

I don't have any screenshots of mine, but they aren't too exciting. Each villager gets a bush and a cedar tree! That's about it.

Okay, that's awesome! I hope you don't mind if I steal that idea 😂

All of my villagers have a small outdoor area, some have larger areas than others as my houses are spread around my island. Everybody has flowers, trees and a garden table at least. I mostly use the natural square table as it has a small footprint. Each table has a log or stone stool. All the tables have either a coffee cup, tea cozy set, glass candle or cat grass on them to make them look homely. I also use garden faucets (the brick one is very homey), hose reels, bird houses, bird baths or other small footprint items to pad them out.

I also gift a different door wreath to every villager to give them some more individuality.

Still working on getting good photos of everyone but here’s Bluebear and Audie. Yard size is 10 spaces wide by 8 deep. I’ve found villagers tend to use objects if you put them in front of their house. This also gives them space to sweep or do yoga. Before this, I had given a villager a side yard she rarely used, so I switched to front yards.

Too cute  Though, I do have to disagree about them not using objects on the sides of their house- I've most certainly seen Merry laying in the poolside bed/chair (I can't remember what they're called right now) beside her house. I think the fact that her yard is so fenced off helps keep her in it at times, since she spends a lot of time there ever since I made it.

Fencing probably does help! I’ve seen a lot of side yards that look great and have nothing against them. I just kept noticing my villagers doing things in front of their houses (even before they had proper yards or things to interact with). It made me wonder if one of their programmed behaviors is to hang out in front of their house. Similar to how sometimes they are programmed to go to the plaza, sit by the water or under a tree, etc.

I just thought about using those for mailboxes today, but I wasn’t sure how it would look. After seeing it I think I’ll definitely do it now!!

I’ve been working HARD on yards the last couple days. I’m trying my best to match my personal taste but also each villager’s hobbies/personality/vibe! Here are the ones I‘ve done so far~

Fang (currently Octavian But Fang is moving in shortly, so it’s meant to fit his house&education hobby)

Phoebe's, Phil's and Flora's yards. 4 of villagers still live on the beach and the other 3 have random stuff in the yard because I'm trying to move some rocks.

AHhhflghkj I just moved my villagers up on top of my second level and decided to make the residential area surrounded by forest, but this seriously is making me reconsider lol! I loooove the beachside vibes in your design! The floral surfboard is so cute with that house exterior

Hopefully will be posting here soon. Honestly I had been urged to make the exact same post to find inspiration myself, doing 10 villager exteriors/yards can feel so daunting at first! :,)
