Should you be able to have two islands

So hear me out on this: one of my biggest issues with New Horizons is that you only get 1 island per switch. This can cause some issues since lots of people dedicate islands to specific themes or just to sell/trade items with

Do you think we should be able to have multiple islands?

If it’s on the same character I could see Tom Nook offering a second island after you’ve payed off every loan on your first island. The second one would likely be the same size or smaller and I’f smaller would be able to hold a smaller amount of villagers (6-8) as well

Of course then there’s always the option of starting a new island on another account on the switch, instead of them all moving into the one island. This would make sense but you wouldn’t be able to carry over progress or catalog

Any thoughts or ideas on this? How do you think it would effect gameplay overall and the community?

i think absolutely yes!! it would add so much longevity to the game. furniture you can’t use on your first island bc it’s cottage core you can on your second, bc it’s a traditional zen style island. u know what i mean?

plus experiencing new villagers would be fun. i also think this would be cool if they ever added in farming/gardening like the rumors say the will, as then you’d have extra space to make a farm island! especially for the people that made insane city scapes and urban themes lol.

also it would be cool for people who have to share switches. if you’re not a res rep on the main island, maybe you can be on the second!
i think it would be neat if we could buy new acres of land and expand our islands too. that would also add some longevity and things to pay off besides just HOUSEHOUSEBRIDGEHOUSE

but anyways i think i’m generally on board with this idea!! i want to try different themes without destroying my current islanddd

Yes. We should be able to have multiple islands per switch. Not everybody wants to have to share an island, especially families with lots of kids. It’s pure greed on Nintendo‘a part not to allow this.

Yep, but unfortunately Uncle Nintendo has realised that instead of trying to get you to buy another 60$ copy of the game, they can just try and get you to buy their entire 200$-400$ console again. So that 2nd island thing is literally never going to happen

That would be nice! We have two kids and eventually gave up and bought a second switch so that they can build their own island the way they want.

Another island would be nice, although my idea is to have a smaller island instead. Probably half the size of what we have. Then the trees than can grow there are the missing ones, such as mangoes, durian, lychee, etc.

There are so many reasons why having to share an Island just doesn’t work. It’s already complicated sharing with 3 people on one Island I can’t imagine sharing with up to 8 people. Everyone has their specific taste in everything including villagers. I feel like it’s set up so that the Island rep gets to have the Island and everyone else is just gets to live there.

At the very least they should make it so that if you buy a seconds copy of the game, you can play it on the same switch.. rather than having to get a second switch as well

The issue with that is they no longer have it so you can save your game on the cartridge but rather to the console itself. A large reason behind this decision is the GameShark devices. You can no longer use those on the game cartridges to hack things because there's no save files on the cartridges.

being able to have multiple islands would be great! with new leaf, i owned 3 copies and absolutely loved it - i was able to implement any 2 other ideas that i came up with without having to touch my first town! granted, that might’ve made me a bit spoiled but i’d love to have at least one more island - i have this huge idea of having a winter-themed island and while i love that idea, i don’t wanna redo or restart my current island, either aha ;u;

that being said, this isn’t something that’ll probably ever come to fruition since having the only way to have more than one island being to buy a whole new console ensures nintendo more money than just having us spend 60+ dollars on another copy of the game would ;;

with the backup added I had wondered if you could maybe circumvent this. backup your island, delete your characters start a new island with one account. then when u do the second account attempt to restore your backed up island. Probably doesn't work and I'm never gonna try, but was curious enough to ponder it.

I wish there was a way to have another island. I haven't finished my first island and I already want another more thematic one.

With so many families sharing a console and the New Leaf community that often have multiple towns, I think Nintendo is being a bit stingy with only allowing one island. I don't see the harm in allowing more than one save file, especially for different accounts/profiles. Not sure if it's a data space issue or what.

Even if it required another purchase of the game (or maybe half off for each additional island) I think a lot of people would still buy it... definitely more than would buy another switch.

Personally I'd be happy with just being able to buy another copy in case I want another island. But realistically I won't have the time for more than one, I'm already way too busy with my five characters.

Yes! I mean, I'd even pay slightly more for the game if that was an option! Sometimes I get bored of my island theme and wish I could do a really cool second island. But I'm not about paying for a second switch! I think the second smaller island idea is super cool. It would give us a chance to experience more villagers too!

I definitely wish we could have more than one island.
Like at least one island per account! It’s quite annoying that everyone has to share one island. I refuse to spend hundreds of dollars on another switch just to have my own island. Nintendo isn’t going to win this one with me!

yeah like others have said I would LOVE to be able to have another island!! in NL I eventually had 2 towns which was so nice because it meant I had one for actual gameplay and then I could use the other for cycling or resetting or whatever I felt like doing at the time. if I had another island now it might ease the temptation to reset as it would give me a chance to start fresh but with all the knowledge of the game I have now!
