Should I get my permit when I turn 15 years old?

Of course you should! My mom didn't want me driving but I convinced her to let me learn because then I'd be a bad driver as an adult and wouldn't have gained the necessary experience.

Not sure what state you're in, but where I am, you can have your full license by 20.

SA, we are literally the worst drivers though it's understandable. From July you have to be on your L's for 2 years (18), P1 for one year (19) and P2 for 2 years (21). Not quite 25 lmao, but its still 5 years.

If you are mature and responsible enough, I say go for it. It's almost always better to get your permit and license the younger you are. Later on, you'll qualify for good driver discounts. Just be aware insurance costs will likely be high within the first few years of driving.

I recommend driving schools. Getting a neutral viewpoint is incredibly helpful and most driving schools have specialty cars that have an extra set of brakes in case of emergencies or learning purposes.

if you think you can handle it, okay. also you can't drive yourself without an 18 year old with a license until you're 16 and get your actual license, so i would watch for that before you actually drive. like there is no driving experience required to get your permit, but you need to be able to drive to get a license, so it's good to start early and get that permit so you can get your license quicker. it's never a bad idea to start training to drive.

I waited and I kind of regret it. You can get it later, of course, and it doesn't make much of a difference in the long run, but when other people your age start driving before you it's a little discouraging.

If you want to, go for it. 18 here and I don't have mine, but that's mostly just because I'm not entirely interested in driving right now, plus I have other options for getting around. I've done a few driving practice runs and it isn't scary or anything as long as you know what you're doing.

I thought you could only get your license (at least fully)in the States at 25?

Maybe it's just me being paranoid and/or slightly jealous, but driving very young seems dangerous. But if you feel like you can handle it and benefit from it, sure.

You should. The earlier you get your permit and license, the better you'll feel.

The earliest you can get your license is 16. It used to be cliche that teens on their sweet 16 got a car and their license. (There's a curfew on your license till you're 18 though)

Personally, I'd say go for it. Better to start learning early after all! I'm 20 and I don't have a learner's permit, late alone a license, and I would've appreciated being able to learn at 15. :lemon:

Of course, self pity aside, the only one who can decide if you're ready yet is you.

I wasn't in a rush to get mine, think I got it at 17-18.
I much rather be driven around so I can sleep. Sleeping in vehicles is kinda my thing.

Unless I'm behind the wheel, of course.

S A M E, i love sleeping in cars

I'd say that it would probably be best getting the permit now, as you'll get more behind-the-wheel experience for when you eventually get the full liscense

It's really up to you, if you feel comfortable and ready go for it! I have awful anxiety so I still don't have my license, and I've had my permit once when I was 18 and only practiced twice and had a panic attack both times.
