• Good evening, everyone! We have an egg hunt announcement! An additional clue for egg #21 will be posted Monday at 6 PM EDT if it hasn't been found by then. The egg hunt will also be extended until Tuesday morning at 10 AM EDT.

Should I drop Algebra 2?

and yea like other ppl have said even if you don't need it now if you decide to go to uni you might need it for some program. I know a girl who didn't take gr 12 physics bc it wasn't needed to graduate and now she's in 4th year uni and can't get into pharm like she planned bc of that physics credit... and she's forced to like go back to her hs and take it by correspondence or something now?? not exactly sure lol

seriously take as many courses as you can in hs bc their university equivalents will always be harder and honestly hs grades don't matter much once you actually get into a university.

You should keep it. I would suggest learning to love it. I used to despise my AP Calculus class at the beginning of the year, but now it's one of my favorite classes and because of that I have more confidence and do better on my tests.

if you plan to ever take a math course in university you're gonna have to learn how to do those except with harder examples, I'd suggest you just power through and get tutoring if you really don't get it. a D- is still a pass, better that than a F in uni imo.

edit/also you could look at youtube videos for things you get, there's a lot of really good ones that explain concepts/examples pretty well. considering none of those should include super difficult proofs or anything as long as you do lots of examples I think you should be ok!!
I'm not sure if YouTube is good because I might not find the correct formula example I'm trying to learn(different names for the formula) I tried Kahn academy but I it wasn't great. I think I'll go for tutoring though.

I think I'll finish what I started though, thanks!

Interference! (by Vizionari's older sister who's in college and currently in calc 3 and actually studying for her quiz right now)

The stuff you learn in Algebra 2 now doesn't seem to matter much TILL you get to calculus (2, 3, 4). That is where the fun begins, and where all the stuff you don't think matters (such as three-system equations) come back to haunt you from within your calculus problems that create page-long and two-page long problems to solve! You have time NOW, don't waste it, because you're not gonna get time later.

replying to viz:

Well it seems that what I'm being taught is a mile long but only an inch deep. Tbh, I just remember for the test/final and then I forget everything. I don't believe I'll be able to remember enough when I get into cal 2,3,4

Do you have any free tutoring programs at your school? Maybe peer tutors can help you learn with better techniques.

I'm going into my second semester of Algebra 2. I missed almost all of it, because when I wasn't int he hospital I was too tired to pay attention. I suggest maybe finding someone a grade above you and asking them for help (I did that with French) or asking the teacher if you could do extra credit or be in remediation.

I have had straight A's since freshman year but not in AP classes, just normal. I thought senior year would be the same but I've gotten my first F since middle school in Algebra 2. I've never been good at math, however, I've had great teachers and I think my school is okay and I do my homework and such. However, I do absolutely despise my teachers in math this year. Well, one is a student teacher and the other is my "real teacher". I'm not sure what's happening with me. I've done swell in Algebra 1 but I've fallen apart it seems this year. Is it the subject or the teacher? Have I lost a ton of brain cells and it's me who sucks? I'm not sure. Well, my grade is shattered. All A's except for math which I now have a D- in...

I'm not sure if I am going to college or if I'll "need" Algebra 2. I use math daily everyday but nothing exactly like f(g(x)) lol. I wanted to take accounting (however, my school only allowed me al2 or accounting and I made a bad choice I think) but I can't now...it's full. I've been in the class for a semester and I'm about to take my final which I assume I'll get a bad grade on... Should I tough it out for next semester? If I fail this semester, I don't think it would count at all...

Algebra 2 isn't required for my state. I have taken my three year math requirements already.

I hate to tell you this but even in college you're going to be learning math that you won't ever use unless you go into very specific areas of study. I'm going to college to be an Elementary Teacher and I'm enrolled in college math 119 this semester. Even though you may not be doing well, I urge you to stay in Algebra 2. If you need help with your math problems I should be able to explain how to do them and check your work. All you need is a C to pass the class but I know you can bring it up to at least a B.

If you decide to go to college, their math is built upon what you "should" have learned in High School and Algebra 2 is a basic math to college. Even if it's not required to take a fourth math class for your state, it will help you in the long run when you get into college math.
